Problem is, there's not much else to attract the casual visitor to Leicester is there?

We have some lovely friends who live in Oadby so that would attract me :D

Not forgetting
Leicester City Football Club
Leicester Tigers
Loads of museums, including the Jewry Wall museum
Leicester Cathedral
A modern shopping centre.

They chose wisely when they buried Richard in Leicester.

This is the latest:

"The king's remains will now be reinterred at Leicester Cathedral, the nearest consecrated ground, in keeping with archaeological practice.
But the discovery has sparked a row between Leicester and York, which claims King Richard III should be buried there according to his own wishes. Kersten England, chief executive of City of York Council, said: "His self-identification with the north and York is reflected in his plans for a chantry of 100 priests in York Minster where he wished to be buried.

"That the burial site of this Yorkist king was determined by where he died from battle wounds makes the importance of adhering to his own wishes for his final resting place most important. "City of York Council and all its political leaders are united in the belief that York is the most fitting burial place for Richard III, one of the city's most famous and cherished sons."

City of York Council will now write a letter to the Ministry of Justice stating its case."

I was going to suggest under the car park at terminal 4 in Heathrow ... Should make him feel quite at home and convenient if he ever wants a flight

An artists impression of what the new tomb will look like was shown on tv last night - the Richard lll Society have something to do with it - and I think it looks very fitting indeed.

When it's all complete I will go and have a look and visit Leicester.

I watched this when it was first shown, having waited excitedly these last few months since the discovery was made and found it extremely interesting with it exceededing my expectations. I also thought that Philippa (Richard III Society), was so respectful of his remains and treated him with dignity throughout. For anyone who missed it that time, I'd certainly recommend catching the repeat.

PS, I personally also think our last Plantagenet King should be returned home to York (sorry Leicester).

Sorry 007, I disagree.

Our Social Services have put him up for 500 years and now he's been taken off our benefit list and is going to start earning the Yorkies are suddenly interested.
Besides we made a deal with 'Uddersfield that if we let them win their Cup match against us we could keep Richard. Renege on the deal? How very dare they?

My brother tells me there is an exhibition going on in Leicester at the moment although they hope to have a proper exhibition centre in the fulness of time. A good excuse to visit Leicester and enjoy some of the best curry houses in the country.

I would much prefer York or even Westminster Abbey.

My theory is that Richard III committed suicide and was conveniently laid to rest in Leicester ... I went there myself once so I think I know just how he must have been feeling at the time

No, it couldn't have been that as we were living North North East, or was it North North West, of the North of Northampton in Northamptonshire at that time ... so we were surely already in the North :? :P
