'Twas ever thus. To quote from W.S.Gilbert's libretto in HMS Pinafore;

By a pocket borough into Parliament.
I always voted at my party’s call,
And I never thought of thinking for myself at all.
I thought so little, they rewarded me
By making me the ruler of the Queen’s navee!

I am disappointed as we do not have a candidate for the Raving Monster Loony Party - and at least with them it says on tin what they are

The elected MP may well be a very decent, upright, hardworking, honourable person regardless of which party they belong to, but at the end of the day, they have to tow the party line so, really, we're voting for the party, not the person.

I may be in the minority on this forum, and in Surrey where I live, but I shall be voting Labour as the only party that I trust with pensions and the NHS !!!

Having watched last nights election debate l was left thinking what a terrible state our political system is really in. I suppose thats what happens when you put three bitchs between two dogs. (Metaphorically speaking) You had British Bull Dog (Nigel Farage) alienating what he believed was a anti UKIP hand picked impartial audience...which l have to say seemed to be the case. You had Pit Bull Terrier (Nicola Stergeon) pleading to get into bed with the Poodle (Ed 'stabed his brother in the back) Miliband...but l'll give him some credit as he did have the balls to say 'No' which on reflection must give the SNP leader every hope that a deal can be done. I don't know what it is that l like about the Australian Cattle Dog (Natalie Bennett) perhaps its just the case that l wouldn't mind taking her out for walkies sometime. As for her performance last night l thought she came across quite well especially when she got in about this Goverments inhumane disability cleansing program which has left many severely disabled people without bennifits. ATOS. The Welsh Corgi (Leanna Woods) came across as the most sincere of all the pack and will have done her party's aspirations no harm at all, especially in them yonder hills of Wales...that being said l had a job keeping my eyes open throughtout her deliveries....which must be something to do with that Welsh accent

Whichever party/s find themselves in Goverment it will mean more changes for changes sake which is exactly what has brought us to where we are now

Right...Im off to take the dog for a walk.

Even though Gordon Brown did more to destroy the long term value of pensions than anybody on the planet.

I do however think that the NHS, as we know it, will be safer under Labour but the health of the Nation will not be best served by those who have more care for their Union cronies and employees than the patients.

Is this the same Gordon Brown who raided pension pots to prop up his profligate spending, and sold off our gold reserves when the price of gold was at an all-time low?

Promises promises....not.
We'll end up again having, which personally I don't agree with, another coalition with both parties compromising with each other on their proposed reforms just to get a foot in the door, meaning what they told us on the TV debates was typical political bull sh*t.

I reckon Red Ed's between a rock and a hard place. Nicola would eat him for dinner............................ and he knows it!!!

The more I see and hear him, and the more the arguments are twisted against him, the more I like Nigel Farage who isn't afraid to tell it as it is, doesn't worry about upsetting people and is clear and resolute in his thinking. He does actually talk sense as opposed to those who try to use emotional blackmail and soft soap to woo the voters. At least with him you know what you're getting whether you agree with him or not.

The trouble is none of them come up with the policies they think are best for the country, rather the policies they believe will get them elected. The party that promised to give us a million pounds each would win the election, but ruin the country.

But only if they kept to that election promise!!

Mr Farage gets my vote. I know his party haven't a hope in hell of getting in, but I sincerely believe that the more votes they get, the louder the voice of dissent against the two mainstream parties will be, and, hopefully, this time, they won't be so arrogant to ignore it.

From what I have heard there is only the Conservatives that are trying to win outright - all the other parties are vying to be part of a coalition of one sort or another which strikes me as a poor way to run, what is effectively, your business.

I firmly believe that "party politics" should be kept out of politics and all candidates should be independent and elected on their merits as to how they will represent their constituency.

Another farce is all this we have x% of the vote and you have y%. I am sure someone could do the maths and prove that the party with the lowest percentage could have the most seats.

All I can say is that I am glad that I am going away next week and will miss a couple of weeks of all of this argy bargy.

I don't wish to ruin my chances of going walkies with Nicola but if Mr Foxy, Mr Shinny and by the sound of it Stephen are leaning towards Mr Farage then that'll do for me. I do however have concerns over our exit from the EU and the repercussions thereafter but that is a chance worth taking.....l think?

I have read that we are the sixth richest country in the world, so If this is the case then there has to be something wrong when our political system allows some to drink champage every day of the week while an ever increasing amount of people are reciving food parcels. This coalition haven't got to grips with the immigration issues and have failed to get to grips with the disparity between those who should pay more and tnose who pay what they can least afford.

I appreciate l may well be way off the mark on this one but when l look at the cut and slash austerity measures implemented by this coalition government l do wonder if an austerity tax would have been a better and fairer way of dealing with our national debt.

Most if not all of the austerity measures implemented will have cost million if not billions to administer, many of which have been a complete waste of tax payers money and has brought our public servies to its knees.

When l say an austerity tax l'm not talking 10p in the pound l'm talking an amount of tax per capita that will not only reduce our deficit (long term) but salvage what we still have left of our public services.

I can't at this point in time disclose my fiscal measures as l'm not bright enough to do so but was thinking somewhere in the region of £500 per annum tax increase for an avarage income earning family rising as you go up the income ladder.. bloody hell l hear you say..., but my way of thinking is that one austerity tax would be better than having to deal with all the unfair and in many cases very expensive ill thought out austerity cuts which this ' rob Peter to pay Rupert' government is all about. Oh yeah! Nearly forgot.... all you rich pensinoers would also be taxed.....again!! :)

Do l want to know what you think?

Nope! Cus I'm off to walk the dog.

All those who supported Gordon Brown should pay an extra £5,000 per year ... end of.

As for this pensioner I would willingly sacrifice Mobietta's £10 Christmas bonus in the spirit of co-operation with all you left wingers.

I love it when someone mentions a party's inadequacies from the past and you get the blinkered look, the pathetic attempt to wriggle out of it, more often than not a denial it ever happened and the latest one from Ms Sturgeon to Mr Farage "This is 2015................."
One thing's for sure I dread to think what will happen if Ed Balls gets his hands on the economy again. I've not forgotten the last time he had hold of the purse strings.
I wonder if he and Yvette are still claiming allowances as two singles which they are legally entitled to do but as they are married is morally wrong?
