Re: The quality of the toast, it's the little things that matter
I can't stand hotel toast - limp, insipid and flavourless. But then I like mine very well toasted, verging almost on black and nice and crisp. Toast can only be made with good white bread, none of this 'good for you, healthy, rich in fibre' wholemeal stuff, although granary has more flavour. Give it lashings of butter so at the very least you can see your teeth in it and plenty of home made marmalade rather than that sugary Hartley's/Robertson's concoction and you have a breakfast fit for a king (or a CC mod!!!).
Why do we go away on holiday when all the things we like (and have chosen for ourselves) are at home?

Re: The quality of the toast, it's the little things that matter
having just come back from hols in 7 different hotels we became experts in toast purveying!
the best are those places with the diy machine - I like mine hot and pale., those who like theirs cremated can put it through twice (or more).
If no machine, keep an eye on the buffet for when fresh batch is put out and dive in then.
the worst is when it's delivered with the tea/coffee - long before brekkie arrives and even longer before I actually want to consume it

The diy machines with the dials to adjust toasting time are best. It's always fun to toast your own to your satisfaction then turn it up to its highest level and try not to laugh when the next person's comes out black and smoking.

Before I place our booking for a DB&B bargain break at Chez Fox's Boutique Hotel could you possibly confirm that the locally sourced toast will be thick and that Marmite will also be available.oldbluefox wrote:I can't stand hotel toast - limp, insipid and flavourless. Agh, good ol marmite, lovely. Takes away that burnt taste where the previous person has wacked up the toaster setting to max for a chuckle

and while we're at it....
OH would have coffee for brekkie - but only if it came in his own pot/cafetiere - otherwise it was tea. waiting for top ups of coffee was a bind ( if they came at all)

I prefer to put it to it's lowest setting and then watching the numpties put their toast through 10 timeskaymar wrote:The diy machines with the dials to adjust toasting time are best. Then you always get the person who does one slice at a time, when wanting 4 or more, and thus makes a queue formMeg 50 wrote:having just come back from hols in 7 different hotels we became experts in toast purveying!

Our experiences with P&O have been that the toast is always brought out at the start of breakfast, so it's stone cold by the time I'm ready to eat it (probably cold to start with, anyway). I can't be the only person who thinks toast should be hot?

I rarely eat toast on board - there's far more interesting things to eat at breakfast time, such as the muesli station, where you can pick your fruits nuts and seeds. I eat a lot of toast at home, so I like something different on holiday

Well thank you all for your many interesting contributions. The idea for this post was a result of noticing the few views that Stephen's 'Morning All' post was receiving and I ventured to suggest that a thread regarding P&O toast would receive more views. Hence me posting this topic. Interestingly last weeks 'Morning All' amassed 112 views whilst this one, 287. Make of it what you will.

The only difference being Ray is that Stephens 'Morning all' thread has been going for years, whereas yours will become bread pudding before you know it
Enjoyed it while it lasted though

OBF It was not meant as a criticism of Stephens 'Morning All' to which I am happy to both contribute and plagiarise

Muesli station? Is that in the buffet restaurant? We nearly always have breakfast in the MDR.
