I think I'm quite safe, John. Two small glasses of white wine on a Saturday evening with friends and by the end of the 2nd glass I'm fast asleep and the friends give up and go home.

We are fairly average 65 to 70 year olds and along with the majority of our friends, we know of no one whom we would consider using unsafe amounts of alcohol. In any age group you will always find a few who take things to an extreme which will affect their health.

As for Stephen, you can see he has made that glass of wine last a long time.

If only John ;)

My drinking is confined to holidays - very rarely drink at home unless I have family visiting and not on my own - that's the sticky road to ruin  Since I've been on my own I am the driver so wouldn't take any chances but I do know people who drink every night and they are probably the ones who don't tell the truth about their consumption either :lolno:

It may be true for Lambeth but I don't think it extrapolates to the more sensible northern baby boomers, however I imagine if I lived in Lambeth I too may be driven to drink. :sarcasm:

With the BBQ season in full swing (well not this week) maybe one drinks a bit more, but come the long winter and a good cup of tea comes to mind.

I drink on average I glass of wine every month or so. I just don't like it that much and I certainly don't like the feeling of being slightly tipsy - which one drink gives me!

However, on holiday, I do tend to have a cocktail pre dinner, but I never, ever drink alcohol with a meal. For me it spoils both the meal and the drink!

Pass ... I'm sticking with the report that suggested 7 glasses of red per day was the ideal.

Sadly I would fall asleep long before I could hit that number

I'm confident I'm drinking just the right amount! Yes the occasional increased intake on holiday or special occasion, but usually I have trouble fitting in the required allowance.

There's no hope for me then

Being serious though, some weeks I will have a couple of glasses of Red every night then the following week I won't touch a drop so I probably don't drink enough either

We are taking the grand kids to Blackpool for the weekend in September to see the illuminations so I hope they sort the water problem out by then or I will have to join the Baby Boozers, what wine do you suggest for making the morning cuppa ?.

No point in worrying about how much you are drinking after the age of 65 it's the amount you were drinking before that which will have caused you the most harm...get stuck in and enjoy yourself

I gave up worrying about how much I eat and drink ages ago. I have enough to worry about. ;)

Good thinking Emjay45. I love a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, or a Gin and Tonic. If a real ale is good I'll have a pint. But my days of more than one or two are over. Too many hangovers when I was at sea, and later when I was a Project Manager dealing with the Finns.

There's always some busy body coming up with studies and research about this and that, telling us how to run our lives.

Everything in moderation. It just means I'll have to get up a bit earlier to get my extra daily quoter in

Butter is good for you

Butter is bad for you

"It's welcome back to butter" (tagline from 1985)

Butter is bad for you.

I think we're now back to being told butter is good for us. And that we DO now have to eat some fats.

Yes, too much alcohol can cause physical damage and some irresponsible people use it to cause social disruption, but, as Stephen says, "everything in moderation". After all, if alcohol was a no-no, the Lord wouldn't have done that miracle at the Cana wedding.

Like I said the other day on another thread, I don't have a drink problem. I drink, I get drunk, I fall over. No problem. :sarcasm:

Moi ?

Drink every night but not before 8.00 pm it helps me sleep. Usually a bottle of vino or a few (good) G&T's
Smoke 30 plus ciggies a day and the odd cigar. Fighting fit at 18+ stone
What's the problem ???
BTW I am not a wealthy pensioner, spend too much on cruises and good living :shh:

I definately drink too much

I know it !

I usually have a glass of white with dinner and may have another couple during the course of the evening.
Does it worry me?
Nah !!

Stress and worry are equally bad for you and all these scare stories do nothing to alleviate them. Chill out and pour another glass of wine.

Sue telephoned our Agent in Finland once to try to contact me and in the converstaion said "Dont let 'Frank' drink too much Raimo!" His reply was priceless and typical "He not drink too much! He is drunk before he drink too much!" I always remember him for his priceless and regularly delivered phrase "We go to hottel now, have Ginni Tonikki".

I had a simple method for knowing when to stop, which was to test my bottom lip. If it was anaethetised then it was time to stop. Happy days!

Ooh Frank and I thought you were such a good boy when you were younger. ;) From now on though it's going to be 'I'll have a Ginni Tonikki' I like that. :D
