So George Osborn says there'll have to be an emergency budget if Brexit wins.
Has it not occurred to him that if Brexit wins on 23rd June it's highly unlikely he'll be Chancellor on 24th?

Unless you're thinking of topping him then I suspect he will hang around for as long as possible. He would have to be sacked by the PM or resign, neither of which are likely until the PM is forced into a leadership battle, which will take some time.Mervyn and Trish wrote:So George Osborn says there'll have to be an emergency budget if Brexit wins.

There may be a while before a leadership contest but I think if remain wins CMD and Georgie Boy will take the blame and will be forced out or resign very quicklytowny44 wrote:Unless you're thinking of topping him then I suspect he will hang around for as long as possible. The remain group in the conservative party do have a majority, so if they were to rally round CMD it may not be a foregone conclusion that Boris would win a leadership battle.Mervyn and Trish wrote:There may be a while before a leadership contest but I think if remain wins CMD and Georgie Boy will take the blame and will be forced out or resign very quicklytowny44 wrote:Unless you're thinking of topping him then I suspect he will hang around for as long as possible. If they really believe some of the tripe they've been spouting, they will definitely prefer Dave to head up the Brexit negotiations, which might screw us worse than still being in the EU.

Re: EU referendum - Stay or Leave?
If they lose the referendum surely the Remain group will turn on him for screwing up first the negotiations with the EU and then the campaign and dividing the party. My view is he's toast unless Remain win with a decisive majoritytowny44 wrote:The remain group in the conservative party do have a majority, so if they were to rally round CMD it may not be a foregone conclusion that Boris would win a leadership battle.Mervyn and Trish wrote:There may be a while before a leadership contest but I think if remain wins CMD and Georgie Boy will take the blame and will be forced out or resign very quicklytowny44 wrote:Unless you're thinking of topping him then I suspect he will hang around for as long as possible. At least they have had the decency to suspend the bunfight that is loosely known as "campaigning" following the tragic killing of Jo Cox although I see that both sides are already trying to make capital out of it.

Re: EU referendum - Stay or Leave?
It was a terrible tragedy and no-one will ever really know why it happened. After the respectful pause in the campaign I imagine, from what I've read about her, that Jo would wish them to resume the democratic process and not try to relate her death to how anyone should vote.

There'll obviously have to be a by-election at Batley and Spen. Do you think it should be uncontested as a mark of respect - or would that be hailed as "undemocratic" by some bright sparks ?

I believe that the Conservative Party have already said they won't contest it.
However there may well be some cranks ?

Cranks won't win it, just show themselves as tasteless as they are. Wonder if it'll be a safe seat for someone like Balls?

Apparently, the Jo Cox "murder suspect" gave his name in court as "death to traitors, freedom for Britain"
Why was this bloke allowed to roam the streets ?

I believe it's called " Care in the community", so I guess the local community must be to blame, not NHS cuts.qbman1 wrote:Apparently, the Jo Cox "murder suspect" gave his name in court as "death to traitors, freedom for Britain"
