Seat up? Or seat down?

Unread post by qbman1 »

Now THAT vote is out of the way, let's turn our attention to something that really matters (!)

One of the biggest areas of conflict in many homes is whether the lavatory seat should be left up or left down. In my experience, the ladies leave it down whereas the men leave it up (for obvious reasons).

Invariably, the ladies insist that the seat should be down at all times and woe betide any poor humble male who leaves it up ! Now, my argument is that there is absolutely no difference if the ladies have to put the seat down before "use" or the men have to lift it up so why, oh why is it such an issue when we leave the seat up ?

I am willing to be convinced....!

Logically better to leave the seat up then the ladies know the gents have not used the loo without raising the seat.
However gents and ladies never agree when it comes to logic!!! :lolno:

Not only are the seats down in our house, the lids are down too! Nothing worse than walking into a bathroom to see into the toilet.

I don't mind putting the seat down for the ladies so long as they lift it back up for me to use.

As for putting the top lid down, whats wrong with looking into a spotless white toilet bowl with clean water in the bottom ?, I thought that was to sit on while I clipped my toenails. :lolno:

Ok, it's got to be seat and lid down - and here's my reason. What if something accidentally slips out of your pocket/handbag/hand whilst you are in the bathroom? If it falls onto a lid (plastic or wood, or even with one of those natty covers on the lid), there is a good chance that the item will be easy enough to pick up from the floor. Additionally, any damage to the item could be less than if the item fell onto a hard porcelain surface (the loo basin), and of course there would be no water damage.

So, because I'm too fond of stuff to risk damage to said stuff (phone, jewellery, etc), it's seat down and lid down. Less damage causes less cost, less upset too!

Just being sensible.

How many time do you see a house on TV or in an agents leaflet, and the photo shows the seat and lid up? It looks stupid and un appealing. Seat and Lid down as soon as you have finished gents, and please wash your hands afterwards, both genders.

And ALWAYS close the lid to flush; the spray can travel metres!

Gentlemen should lift the seat for their use, and, as they are 'gentlemen' replace it for use by ladies, in the down position.

Same as walking on the outside of a pavement.

As for the lid, I couldn't care less............... as long as those using the toilet lift it before use!!!

Gentlemen -. Please put seat down after use and close lid, thank you

Why do we have a lid on toilet pan? To close, of course!

I think the pavement rule is a bit outdated now Wolfie as people no longer throw their sewerage out of the bedroom window. (not round here anyway)

I agree with Gill - seat and lid down before flushing to avoid germs travelling in spray.

Gill/Barbara, you put the lid down over the toilet basin then flush is that right ?
So what happens to the spray containing the germs that hit the bottom of the lid and probably bounce onto the seat ?.

Better they hit the seat than your toothbrush or tooth mug!

I once made the mistake of flushing the toilet without closing the lid, after I had put bleach down. Even though I was about 8' away, the spray bleached my clothing, proving without doubt how far the spray travels.
Now if the toilet had contained solid waste...........well, not what I'd want on my clothes or toothbrush.

For that reason I don't keep toothbrushes on show. They are in a cupboard at the side of the washbasin.
