A bitter sweet very very memorable Christmas with some very sad and amazingly happy moments was the year my dad was given six weeks to live, on Christmas Eve.
We knew he was terminal ( asbestos), but we were not expecting it to happen so soon.
I was with my mam and dad in the car on the way back from the hospital, so we all discussed how we were going to handle it. My children were aged 8,6 and 5
My dad was amazing, he said just lets not say anything and let's make some special memories for the kids...which we did.
We spent almost every hour we could together, My mam and dad slept at our house for the whole of the Christmas week....we sang in the New Year, through many tears...Hugged and expressed our love for each other..my dad was surrounded by love from his whole family. He dressed up as Santa..had his photo taken with the kids and us.
He was in pain a lot though and there were some dark times..but these were shielded from the kids.
We had lots of family and friends come visit, to say their goodbyes, but always left smiling, after my dad joked with them.
A very very memorable Christmas.xxxxxxxx
He died peacefully on Feb 4th. 1994. Age 63.
I still miss him terribly...but it always makes me smile when I think about him and that Christmas
