On line frustration
Spent ages trying to renew my driving licence on line.
Followed all I was supposed to do and then the web site froze and now it's telling me to wait 24 hours.
It's annoying when all these things are done on line to save them time but then you encounter problems. Then they have the nerve to charge you £14 for the renewal.
I'm a bit fed up at the moment as my husband has a trapped ulna nerve in his right arm so I am chief cook and bottle washer and dog walker.
Roll on the next cruise.

you're in Swansea - can't you stage a sit in at the DVLA and do it face to face?

I would be happy with the dog walking part if it's in the countryside (fields & woods) it's the rest that's a nuisance! Hope he gets well soonWhynd1 wrote: 13 Jan 2018, 11:38Spent ages trying to renew my driving licence on line.

That's a pain. I don't suppose it's any consolation but I did mine in 5 minutes!

I hasten to add I'm not renewing it because I've reached 70.
Apparently you are required to renew your license every ten years.

What was the £14 charge for Lindsay, was this for using a credit card, or are they applying this for everyone even those paying by debit card?Whynd1 wrote: 13 Jan 2018, 11:38Spent ages trying to renew my driving licence on line.

Don't worry John they are not charging us oldies over 70 for renewal of licence - only applies to the youngsterstowny44 wrote: 14 Jan 2018, 22:47What was the £14 charge for Lindsay, was this for using a credit card, or are they applying this for everyone even those paying by debit card?Whynd1 wrote: 13 Jan 2018, 11:38Spent ages trying to renew my driving licence on line.

Re: On line frustration
I managed to renew online yesterday. Paid the £14 by debit card.
Have checked the bank and it's gone through.
I didn't notice any mention of card charges.

My renewal was after ten years so I had to pay but if the renewal is because you're 70 it is free. As I'll find out in another 30 years

When did this ten year renewal kick in then. I've never had any notification from the DVLA about renewing.
Mind you, I am ALLOT younger than Merv

Re: On line frustration
I went online due to a change of address to find that my license expired in a few months anyway.
I must admit that I hadn't given it a thought but renewed while I was there at £14
I think that is just DVLA admin charge.
BTW I'm a long way off 70

Yes I have got the photo licence Jan and have had one for years. Never knew it had to be renewed though every ten years. There is a date of Feb22 below my picture, is that the renew date?Jan Rosser wrote: 15 Jan 2018, 13:31Don't tell me you've still got the old paper licenceStephen wrote: 15 Jan 2018, 12:32When did this ten year renewal kick in then. It's the photo card licence that needs renewing every 10 years Stephen and if you've got one of those you should be notified when it needs renewing.

It's no 4a on your licence
If you already have the photo licence they will write to you, provided you have not changed your address and not told them.
The letter is signed by the Caption Manager, wonder what one of those is supposed to be.

Quick reminder to all to check your E111 card for expiry dates as they only last three years.

Thanks Lindsey, it's the same as the date I mentioned, 2022, so I'm ok for a few more years, hopefully.

Re: On line frustration
If I remember correctly the "10 year renewal" only applies if your photo has changed significantly. These days they pick up your photo from your passport.
Last yeat my passport was due for renewal, as was my driving licence. So I had new photo taken for passport, uploaded it and got new passport. I then renewed my driving licence and guess what - old photo on driving licence!!!

My new driving licence arrived this morning, so that was very speedy. One is required to send the old back but they do not provide you with an was.
