Not much in this part of Cumbria. We had a couple of flurries but it quickly melted. I gather they have had more further inland and, of course, all the passes will be closed.
I was taught to be cautious

Well it's horrendous here... We have had about a foot of snow..snow thunder and lightning...Blizzards most of the day..Roads are frozen, buses off..( not that I use them) Schools all closed. I took grandchildren home last night and skidded down the bank from my house..no control at all. Roads had been gritted, but so much snow fell again it just froze up.
No cars could get up the bank in our street.
It's been snowing most of the day, just stopped now, but the wind is getting up now. More snow coming through the night.
My DIL is sleeping at the hospital she works in tonight as she can't get home, she has been there since 8.30 this morning, it took 40 mins to do a 15 min journey in a taxi this morning, taxis off the roads now.
She finished at 9.30 tonight and starts again at 7.30 tomorrow morning.
So maybe some have got off lightly, but believe me it's no laughing matter up north at the moment !!

Yes, Sue, that is proper snow like wot you've got.

In not too sunny Darzet we have had an overnight ' dusting ' but we may be in the path of the ' Red Alert ' for Somerset which is due to start anytime soon.

ps ... the Bin Men collected ours at 08:30 this morning
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Atrocious conditions here.

If anyone is thinking of driving anywhere then I would say DON'T. The roads are horrendous, not because of the snow which is falling relatively light, well here it is, but the ice hidden underneath. My ABS kicked in a few times this morning when trying to stop at low speed.

Saw a bin lorry on my travels this morning, but I think he had just been to fill up at the fuel station. No sign of him around our way, and I don't expect to see him either today.

Not much in the way of snow over this side of the hills, but we did have frozen water pipes this morning - turned out to be the water meter that had frozen up a bit.

As I posted on LOTP, We got it real bad here in Norfolk last night, woke up to almost an inch of snow !
Don't know where you are in Norfolk, but here (just east of Norwich) we had about 4" yesterday. There is now about a foot and it's still chucking it down.
Near the Airport, yes, by the end of the day must have been a foot deep, did not stop all day and did not go out in it.
Today most of the county roads seem to have snow drifts with a lot of cars getting stuck. Keep safe everyone and if you do take the car , make sure you have a shovel.
Don't worry, be happy

Just started snowing here in Swansea.
It's really really cold.

Glad it's not next week as next Friday travel down to Southampton to board Oriana.

We've had some but so far not a lot. Maybe a couple of inches max. Our worst is forecast for tomorrow. Oddly enough today to close the schools but not to stop the carpet fitters arriving at our house at the top of a hilly road, nor to stop me getting out to the shops nor their staff getting to work. Funny old world.

It has been snowing on the Isle of Wight for a couple of hours but hopefully it won't be as bad as some places on the mainland as we often escape the worst of the weather. Since the last time we had bad weather we have moved to a bungalow on one of the main roads on the Island which means the moving traffic is currently keeping the road clear and the Council will do the rest. Our previous house was in a cul-de-sac and the road took days to clear and was never gritted. Trying to get out of our previous road was a nightmare whether in a car or walking. When you finally got to the main roads leading to the town, it was like another world - clear roads and even gritted pavements.

Living on a main road has some good points. Stay safe everyone.

curious things folks.

Many Croydon schools were closed today, and even more are scheduled to close tomorrow.

Most shops are open, tho' few customers and the roads are quiet. SD is the Optician's receptionist and has had just one patient turn up today

I have been at a meeting this afternoon. We gave our speaker the option to postpone, but she came - having to get to us from near Gatwick, but locals couldn't walk to us.....
It's not unpleasant underfoot thus far - not deep enough to need wellies....

Hope everyone is safe - the front of my house is just one big snow drift - luckily the kitchen door is still accessible but I'm not planning to go anywhere - the road is completely inaccessible  Don't know about anyone else but I feel disorientated - I only realised it was Friday when I saw Stephen had posted his "jokes" page :lolno:

Take care all

We have been/are very lucky as, so far, we have not had any snow today - in fact what bit we have had has almost gone. However that wind is mighty strong and cold!

Some light snow here, but it's mainly my the wind. It's very strong and gusty.
I reckon we are at more at-risk from the wind than the snow.

The forecast is that next week will be warmer, all that snow will start to melt and that could lead to flooding in some parts. Oh, and Stephens bin is due to be emptied.

It had better be or the local council office will be busy with a shovel and bucket :)

The latest yesterday was, all collections are suspended. Wheelie bins will be emptied asap next week or on Wednesdays normal collection day along with the recycling. That's providing temperatures are at T shirt level with a breeze of no more than 2mph and road conditions are at a level of dryness never seen before. :sarcasm:

Strange isn't it how DPD and other couriers still manage to get around yet dusty bin with all they're foul weather florescent gear can't. I thought Johnny foreigner worked in all weathers.

The main road outside our bungalow is fairly clear although the bus to Ryde is not using this route but is using the alternative route to Ryde so possibly problems further up the hill on slightly higher, open road. Traffic extremely light and most pedestrians are using the main road to walk along because the pavements have not been gritted and are pretty mucky. There is a possibility of more sleet later and it is quite breezy but we don't seem to have done as badly as the mainland. There seems to have been big problems on the A31 around the New Forest area where the army was called in to help stricken motorists. The Solent often seems to save us from the worst of the weather.

Had a some swirling snow yesterday which made, then redesigned, intricate patterns on the road and other hard surfaces. Didn't amount to much overall but this morning we awoke to discover that we had frozen ice on all the East facing windows .... Brrrr !!!

ps ... it's Mid-day and the ice is still there for the most part.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Pavements gritted  . We're lucky to get the roads gritted around here let alone pavements.

It makes me laugh when you see on the news each year some council bod saying "we are well prepared for winter with plenty of stocks of grit and salt". That's because they never use the bl**dy stuff
