This might be a wake up call for those who still think this is ‘just flu’. I reckon there’ll be a lot less people ‘sunbathing’ next weekend.

I am hoping Gill, that this whole pandemic/NHS crisis will be a wake up call to the Tories, to fund and nurture the NHS properly. Any large organisation will have flaws and failings we aren't talking about paradise, but the general organisational ethos and culture of our NHS is good. Celebrate it in times of non crisis, as well as now.

For me it should be run as efficiently as the best of the Private Hospital Companies rather than as a lame duck that squanders far too much of its resources. The NHS needs depoliticising and de-unionising plus a total reform from top to bottom.

I believe the new govt were ensuring the NHS would be fully funded and staffed, even before this crisis Frank, which does not appear to have overwhelmed the front line NHS operations anywhere near as badly as some other countries, including the US. The ramping up of ICU beds and supply of new ventilators and CPAP machines has been impressive, the main problems have been in supply and distribution of PPE, which is not surprising when the Worldwide demand has shot up several fold.
The doomsayers who prophesied Armageddon because of austerity cuts to the NHS have been seen for what they were, just political posturers seeking to score points.

Beds have been steadily cut in the NHS since the 80s including years and years of Labour government. It was the last Labour government which removed 200 beds from our new hospital. They cut doctor and nurse training places. It was they that buried the NHS in swathes of micro managing bureaucracy. It's not a Tory thing.

I agree with my honourable friend above that it needs de -politicising. There needs to be cross party agreement on a 25 year plan for the NHS and not reorganise it every 5 years.

I don't agree it should be run as efficiently as private hospitals. Because they're not. They're obscenely expensive. And they wave large piles of money at staff whose training was provided by the NHS and funded by the tax payer.

In my view the Scottish Chief Medical Office should be fired immediately. What hope is there for ordinary people complying with guidance when those who help formulate it flaunt it. What an idiot.

I did post my exasperation with Kuenssberg yesterday about 5.40, but for some reason it was removed. Peston too, they want to know the exit strategy so that they can pick it over and show how clever they are. Stupid. They need to know a lot more about the spread and development of the pandemic before they can plan exit strategy.

Sadly Frank all journos are the same these days. Not happy to report the news but want to be one step ahead. Too many hours of rolling news to fill.

When this all started to blow up big time we were in Madeira and our only English speaking news source on the telly was Sky. Instead of just reporting facts they trotted out endless opposition politicians, self appointed experts, ex ministers and political has beens to pick holes and speculate.

This has never happened before in our lifetime so no one has all the answers. Except Jezzer of course who filled his manifesto with spending plans in anticipation of exactly this! Allegedly.

Perhaps you clicked ' Submit ' but another Member posted at the same time, you would then be put in a queue and need to do a ' Submit ' for a second time. If you didn't do so ( if needed ) your posting would be lost

So often they ask questions which have previously been asked and answered. Or is it that they have pre-determined what they are
going to ask and they are too thick to think of an alternative or to shut up.

Even if they were still in the same room they are so self centred they would never listen to what the others say. In fact from some of their responses to the initial answers I doubt they even listen to them either.

Another one that makes me knash my teeth is Beth Rigsby(?) on sky news. In fact there's so many of them it puts me off listening to the news
I think who every is answering the questions should tell them that has already been asked/answered and move on would save my blood pressure.

The most annoying question at the moment is "What is the exit strategy?" - even I know the answer to that without having to ask "We have several options and we will choose the most appropriate one at the time - whenever that is"
