I’d introduce a system of proportional representation so that the amount of individual votes that a party wins is reflected in Parliament.

Reduce the seats to 500 so if the Raving Loonies won 10% of the votes they get 10% of the seats.

Only then can we get government by consensus and your individual vote actually counts which would increase the turnout.

My BIL has always warned against the ultimate outcome of PR, which in his opinion would likely lead to a much greater influence of the fringe extremist parties, which FPTP effectively eliminates.

I see it as a vote wasted as it lets in the extremists be they right or left.

What’s wrong with people of differing opinions?

One person’s extremist is another’s hero.

Emiline Pankhurst was an extremist.

Nelson Mandela was an extremist.

Gandhi was an extremist.

See my point?

I do indeed but two of them were pacifists and Emily(?) was only a pain in the bum to the authorities whereas Towny's list contains many who were a threat to both our safety and our Country ... as he says, they have no role to play in The House.

The only difference Barney is that all of the above were only extreme in their wanting to help humankind. The “science of ideas” should never be thwarted but the ideology of hate, division and f88cked up unrealistic, idealistic ideas should never be allowed to get a foothold imo.

But I do see your point

They would never get elected to the House.

Diverse opinions are welcome in my book.

The centrist will always dominate in what is basically a conservative country but alternative views have value

You have yourself warned against the rise of the ' Right ', if it were to catch on then the National Front could potentially achieve a seat in an area where extreme views regarding immigration prevailed, for example.

There is a huge difference, in my book, between a diverse opinion and an extreme one.

My next policy would be tighter regulation of holiday park owners. They have for far to long been a law unto themselves, often leaving Caravan owners with no right of redress.

The whole holiday park industry is self regulating....."what they say goes" and caravan owners are often blead dry by their unscrupulous practices...exorbitantly high park fees, that can be increased on a whim...caravan owners are, in many cases restricted to only having insurance through the site owners commission rewarded insurance company.... resulting in excessive premiums for caravan owners.

I do know of one gentlemen who paid £42k for his luxury caravan but due to his wife passing away wanted to sell it 15 months latter....The site owner offer him £18 k.....He did have the option to sell it off site but had he chosen this route the park owner would require 15% of the sale price plus disconnection charges.....He took the losses.

My own experience with our tin can would have had a similar outcome if I had not used some family members to help the negotiations....The owner offerd me £1500 for a van that would have a resell value of £13,000 on his site. I decided to sell it off site and luck would have it my mates came along in their untaxed lorry and offerd me triple the price plus a good luck heather charm. The owner was none too pleased l can tell you.

So until such time that there are tighter regulations it still remains a case of buyer beware when purchasing a static caravan.

I'm surprised once Mr Pike got wind that your first home was up for sale it didn't disappear overnight. :D

Surely anyone with any common sense would check these sort of details before either pitching a caravan on a site or buying on site.

Exactly ... the choice of site is entirely down to one as is renting space for one's own static else purchasing a static from the site owner or existing resident. All up to one but one needs to know that the owner is entitled to control the condition, state and number of years one can leave one's rotting van on the site. Regulations are set by the powers that be, particularly regarding the duration one can live on the site in one's tin can.

Not quite “Exactly” Mob…..most caravan sites are small in nature and have quite loose rules and regulations which can be changed without consultation with the tin can owners. The site owners know you have little option but to accept any changes knowing that moving your tin can will entail the same costs as they did when you moved onto the site… not withstanding the fact that second hand vans are generally not welcome on the bigger sites….and the smaller sites have limits on how many caravans are permitted.
With regard to the number of years before you are required to move your tin can, apart from smaller sites, it is about 15 years and I can tell you that the caravan ordered to be moved will be in no worse condition than that of first year of purchased…it’s just another cash cow for the site owner who gets a big commission from the site owners preferred seller.
You of course can believe what you want to believe but you only have to look on some caravan site forums to see why the holiday site industry needs better regulating.

One reason why I prefer a little more luxury. It will cost more but it's worth it to me.

I only know what I think I know and believe because one of our chums has owned ' Holiday Parks ' throughout the Country, including Wales, over a period of nearly 40 years. His advice to me right at the begining was to purchase a Static for the pleasure it will bring but be happy to write off the cost.

That is sound advice until such time that caravan owners have an arbitrary body that can determine unfair practices. The problem then being getting site owner to sign up to one…without Government regulation that is.

I do accept that there are dodgy dealers out there but not all of them of course. The problem for the owners, according to my mate, is that the Council for example will impose rules 'n' regs upon them which will cost tens of thousands to impliment. This has to be clawed back of course because they are not in the business of providing free holidays. The rental barely covers the cost and the real money is actually made by upgradiing the site and selling on. Many Static owners let out their vans and these age and result in a poor reputation for the owners, they will therefore move them on regardless of how that may be achieved.

Funny you should mention that Merv as I've just about finished watching all episodes and one film (The Jolly Boys Outing) of Only Fools And Horses. Still got the Miami film to watch. Seen them several times but still one of the best classic comedies.

I've also been watching the making of the program on the Yesterday channel which has been interesting viewing. Another episode tonight @ 8pm

Talking of stuff we've been watching since lockdown, we missed so much good TV first time round that, on recommendation from my son, we've downloaded and caught up with programmes we missed due to being too busy.

So, via Sky Box Sets, we have watched
All three series of The Borgias - brilliant
All five series of Boardwalk Empire - brilliant
We are up to series three of The Sopranos - also brilliant.

Warning :- all of the above have a high level of sex and violence
Right up my street
