Included in the £85 price ( as agreed at the outset ) were two each way journeys for two cars from the garage to ours to collect and subsequently return the car, also the cost of charging the crappo battery for a couple of days and the labour costs of course. I thought it was reasonable.

We had a warranty but it was invalidated because we didn't look after it within the terms and conditions required.

When you say 'didn't look after it', what do you mean. Most batteries these days are sealed units so unless your going to read it a story each night before going to bed there's nothing to maintain.

Come on .... Batty loves a good bedtime story, Noddy driving to play with Big Ears is his biggest favourite :sarcasm:

You would know that a battery has to be charged ( this is more for OL than you of course ;) ) and that there is a percentage of charge that is required to start the car. Let us say 70%. If the battery drops below that threshold to say 60% then the car will not start. The RAC or you will need to put a charger on it until the percentage rises above 70%, no problem. However ...

If it sits there and doesn't get charged by being driven or by being put on a charger then the battery will lose charge to a point where it cannot be re-charged back to a figure over 70%. If that happens then you, rather than the battery, are at fault. This is written in the RAC blurb when they sell you a battery and it applies to all reputable manufacturers.

Not that I am any way knowledgable about these matters but when a car is not being used for any lengthy period of time is not recommended that you use a trickle charger to prevent this type of problem developing?

I really have no idea either .... it is presently our intention to drive a different route for about 40 miles every couple of weeks, one's garage owner agrees that this is ' our ' best plan.

Sounds a load of cobblers to me. Battery's sit in shops and warehouses for months before being sold. And are sold as is which is charged. The same as cars sitting on forecourts for months on end before being sold. Nine times out of ten they will start first turn of the key.

If your battery is draining after three months of non use then I would say something on the car is draining it, or its a cr*p battery or you really don't need a car if your only doing short runs every few months.

To determine if there is a problem as described given that you think it's a load of cobblers.

Just got back from a lovely drive in the Darzet countryside ... we saw a tractor pulling a muck spreader, two newly half built houses, a Scotty dog and a Bambi running across the road right in front of us.

One thing that I believe does, or did on some models, drain the battery is if you lock the car with the key fob rather than using the key.

I'm sure it was a car and I'm sure the colour was black but it was much later model than that one Stephen...my recolection is that it looked a bit like a ford popular, but i know it wasn't one because that was my first car.

I hadn't thought of that ... although I did ask the RAC feller if the alarm being activated could have caused the problem. He said not because the amount being used was too small to make any difference. He also advised that there was no drain on the battery that he was able to detect.

The art of cranking was not to grab the handle, for a kickback on the fingers was so painful.
I think the old 100E was cranked, what about that one OL?
