Good morning… I thought it time for your resident ‘smart a*se’ put in an appearance.

After reading some of your posts I’m left thinking which label is worse…. ‘smart a*se. or self-righteousness, the latter easily attributed to some of you on here…. get sharpening your knives because here it comes….

I think some of you should start living in the real world and stop reminiscing about how bad you had it in the old days…listen up folks…. times change as do the expectations in a world that we/ others have created for ourselves. For some, things have improved, for others life isn’t much better than what it was in the old days, other than for technology availability, computers etc.

In one breath you decry all those who haven’t climbed out of their holes, and in the next breath you take the attitude. ‘serves yourself right, you’re on your own’ for all those who have sought to make their lives better by getting on the housing ladder (which I may add is a dam sight harder now than what it was when we got on the housing ladder)

‘Incongruous’ indeed

Just remember onelife loves you all even though you’re about to make chicken nuggets out of me. :D

A brief move away from our Dickensian upbringings to Covid.

I've noticed every time a new country is included in the quarantine requirement many people rush to criticise our own country and say it is much safer in France/Poland etc than here. I suspect they are mostly those whose holidays have been spoilt and are keen to blame anyone other than themselves for being so daft as to go away at the first opportunity.

So just a quick look at the latest figures for the two countries I exampled above. France now has around 4 times as many daily new cases as us. Poland has about the same despite having just over half our population and has just recorded its record daily number. It feels to me they're getting the decisions on quarantine about right.
No, Merv, you are way off the mark.

France is much safer then the UK if you are not in the age range 20-40 and you avoid the nightspots of Paris and Marseille. It is an enormous country with wide a low population density.

France has increased the number of tests enormously so it is no surprise that they find more cases. They also include their overseas territories in their figures. As always the devil is in the detail.

This quarantine nonsense is a political act of vindictiveness and spitefulness by a Prime Minister who likes to think that by acting tough he will gain popularity. It will make no difference to the number of cases in the UK. How many cases have there been amongst those who have returned?

BBC one o'clock news rubbished your theory Keefie, they agreed with the need for current quarantine restrictions, and confirmed that despite the apparent increasing cases in the UK this is entirely due to the increased testing of the hotspots, and the ONS stats show that cases in the UK have stabilised. Maybe you need to revise your theories.

I don't think so.

France is much safer then the UK if you are not in the age range 20-40 and you avoid the nightspots of Paris and Marseille.

Ditto here if you are not in the hotspots.

It is an enormous country with wide a low population density.

When I mentioned population density as a factor in our death rate it was poo-poo'ed. So suddenly it's relevant now?

France has increased the number of tests enormously so it is no surprise that they find more cases.

As have we. We have carried out more tests than any other country in Europe (discounting Russia) - more than twice as many as France.

They also include their overseas territories in their figures. As always the devil is in the detail.

And how many is that? However they count it their number of cases is escalating fast, unlike ours

This quarantine nonsense is a political act of vindictiveness and spitefulness by a Prime Minister who likes to think that by acting tough he will gain popularity. It will make no difference to the number of cases in the UK. How many cases have there been amongst those who have returned?

So when we didn't restrict people flying in we were wrong. And now we are, we are wrong?

Germany have very specifically put their increase in covid cases down to returning holiday makers.
The virus was spread by international travel.
It didn’t swim here, it came in and was passed on by a returning tourist.
Until people can get it through their thick sculls that international travel will continue to spread the virus, we will be in a permanent state of flux.

Safer in France?
Safer in Croatia?

BBC News says " South Korea sees 324 new cases of coronavirus, its highest single day total since March, with most cases traced to churches "

Given that we have similar spikes in the North West could the Church, rather than Boris, be the cause here too ?

Yeah ! Right!
More likely by a returning Brit or a businessman or by a student.

You really must get used to the idea that this virus is here to stay and cannot be eradicated by hiding behind your front door.

Incidentally, Fred Hoyle and others believed that viruses are spread by cosmic dust arriving from space and it’s not an easy theory to disprove although as far as Covid-19 is concerned my money’s on a certain laboratory in Wuhan.

It was a returning British tourist QB coming back from a skiing holiday.

I’m cool with coping with the virus and have been advocating a two tier system for some time with the over 70s and vulnerable staying in as much as possible to protect the health service.

But , to make out any other country is safer when the facts disprove that makes no sense and maybe just fits your rather unusual narrative of thinking things are better elsewhere.
I was talking to a lady yesterday who is a Francophile and was telling me how bad things are here and how good it is there.
When I asked her why she was here instead of there then, she was lost for an answer.
She did also say that she was moving to France a few years back due to Brexit, but guess what ?
Yep, she’s still here.
Maybe after January with a bit of luck?

He was told it’s something like £10000 a day in dock.! Can they afford it at this time.?
