And United retain a 20% sell on clause for Wilf should/when you sell him, even though Palace tried to get it removed as part of the Aaron deal.
As far as I'm concerned United are welcome to it, after all they need the money. Hopefully they won't get any money because we keep Wilf until the end of his contract and then he can go for nothing.
Can't see Parish doing that, he's ( as in Parish ) surely too greedy

Now I know I know nothing abut football but why was a Champions League final between two UK teams ever going to be in Turkey in the middle of a pandemic? Do the organisers have shares in airlines?

I suppose Wimbledon will be in Sydney this year?

The Final is always played in one of the participating Countries and was selected long before they knew who would be in the final. For this game is will, as you point out, be played in Turkey.

I have no idea if the fans will be attending but the players and their little helpers will fly in private planes rather than scheduled airlines.

Good luck with the knitting by the way, best you don't drop one

As Moby said, the venue is chosen before a ball is kicked.
It could just as easily been two Spanish sides or two Italian sides.
The point that they are both English is coincidental.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Eufa change the final venue to Wembley given that no English fans can travel to Turkey.

The FA helped them out hugely with the European International Tournament by supplying venues when other countries had to drop out because of covid.

You see, I was right. I know nothing about football.

Nonetheless with Turkey on the red list it would be insane to allow anybody to go there without the required controlled quarantine in a hotel on return, and that includes the players and their entourage. Private planes or whatever, even footballers aren't immune to Covid or bringing it back.

I would apply the quarantine rules to anyone who goes for work too.

That’s correct as it stands but they can ask for an exemption.
That would be up to the government as to whether to grant it or not.
If exemptions are not granted, then all involved will have to quarantine on return in a hotel.
I’d reckon that both clubs and the players would find that unacceptable and throw it back to Eufa.
It’s actually possible that there would be no final, but highly unlikely.

As I understand it the government and the FA are in talks with EUFA to get the venue changed to an English one. No decision has been made yet but surely common sense will prevail.

Having said that the way EUFA work they will not make the decision until July, maybe August.

In economic terms how much much do they expect to get in ticket sales if the teams' home fans can't go?

I understand what is said about them choosing the venue in advance. Fair enough in normal times.

However, in advance a lot of people planned to go on holiday this year. A lot of people planned to still have a job. A lot of people planned a future that didn't involve premature death.

The pandemic has changed all our lives. Surely they can do the sensible thing and change venue so that neither of the teams have to travel to a red area and their fans can go to the game?

The real money is made through TV revenue rather than selling tickets and most of the games this season have been played behind closed doors. They will change the venue so don't fret.

Since EUFA preferred Wemblry, I assume the govt was unhappy about letting 1000 hangers on from not having to quarantine. Maybe we should put Portugal back on the red list, since they must have accepted EUFAs terms, and will possibly now have increased infection rates?

I believe that it is in excess of 2,000 dignitaries that they wanted allowed in, many from red countries.
There is no way the government could concede to that.
If I was a City or Chelsea fan, I wouldn’t travel if the ticket was free.
International travel is the main driver of the virus.
This Indian variant has once again proven that.

Portugal at present are a 'green light' . Will they still be green on May 29th or will they be red? If you were a fan would you take that chance.

I would.

Definitely not mate.

I'll be checking how it all pans out and hopefully get to a few Gills away games next season but travelling abroad ? Not a chance.

I still don't understand football bureacracy but I now accept the original final venue was decided before they knew who was playing. But to now choose Purtugal and encourage 12,000 fans to travel internationally seems bizarre when suitable neutral UK venues were available.

Merv, you have missed the posts where we discuss the 2000 hangers on dignitaries that UEFA want granted exemption from UK quarantine, some from red countries.

So will Portugal allow them to attend? If show our teams should decline to go and risk mixing with them.

They say that they will ....... however, all citizens of non Eu countries are currently banned from travelling into the Eu at the moment and up to 30th May.
This final is on the 29th which leaves Portugal in a potentially embarrassing position as current chair of the Eu.
As I said, fans should be aware of potential restrictions on re- entry to the U.K..
Portugal are currently saying that fans must fly in and out on the day of the final.
Good luck with that.
