Re: Football 20/21
If you ever read the btl comments on Guardian articles, you'd quickly realise how many people actually genuinely despise their their own country.Onelife wrote: 01 Jul 2021, 09:55It says to me that we are English and still proud of it…come on England!!
Even England's recent victory over Germany bought out the England haters.
I actually wonder why anyone would choose to live in a country that they so obviously hate.
It's almost like a form of mental illness.

Probably because no one else will have them. I'd still kick their ar*ses out though.barney wrote: 01 Jul 2021, 10:05If you ever read the btl comments on Guardian articles, you'd quickly realise how many people actually genuinely despise their their own country.Onelife wrote: 01 Jul 2021, 09:55It says to me that we are English and still proud of it…come on England!!

Hi Barney...I’ve just been reading that the Guardian has to delete 45% of the btl comments which kind of puts things into perspective about the kind of people that comment on such issues.
My presumption is that there is a fine line between despise and disillusionment which I think is where many English Folk are at the present.

Re: Football 20/21
I often wonder how many come here because of the benefits of living in a free England but they have no allegiance to our country, our Royal Family or our national teams. They have their own dress codes, their own way of living and follow their own cultures. Add into the mix the republicans and Marxists who disrespect anything to do with our country and you have a sizeable group of dis-illusionists.
And before somebody jumps in and calls me racist, I am not but I feel if you live anywhere you adapt to their culture and you integrate whilst at the same time contributing elements of your own culture but you do not attempt to undermine the host culture or their beliefs.
Anybody who doesn't like it here, born here or not, is free to leave.

And whilst on the subject of football and the England matches I disapprove of the clowns who think it acceptable to boo the national anthems. They are an embarrassment.

I would actually prefer " Abide with me " to be sung at Wembley rather than the National Anthem and no I am not a Republican.

We had the same thought when watching the match. Totally unacceptable.oldbluefox wrote: 01 Jul 2021, 11:52And whilst on the subject of football and the England matches I disapprove of the clowns who think it acceptable to boo the national anthems. They are an embarrassment.

As ever Keith, you hit the nail on the head. It’s perfectly possible to love your country, whilst simultaneously despair at what it has become.Onelife wrote: 01 Jul 2021, 10:49

Re: Football 20/21
Not 'Abide with Me' which should be reserved for Cup Finals but I would prefer that England had its own national anthem rather than the more generic 'God Save the Queen'. 'Jerusalem' comes to mind but there are others which would be just as apt. Personally I find 'Land of Hope and Glory' a good rousing anthem but may be a problem getting our footballers remember so many words!!!!Manoverboard wrote: 01 Jul 2021, 12:06I would actually prefer " Abide with me " to be sung at Wembley rather than the National Anthem and no I am not a Republican.

'Glad All Over' is the perfect anthem for players and fans to sing and clap to before games.

It just goes to show how easy it is to get that feel good feeling when you all sing with one voice.

On the subject of our friends north of the border it always amuses me that they won a fight 400 years ago and are still singing about it. It does seem a strange anthem.

I'm sorry to hear that. She was always a great and impressive start to a match. It's not the same trailing a fox around or looking for a hornet in a crowd of 20k plus!!!. She will be missed not only by home supporters but travelling fans as well.Bensham33 wrote: 01 Jul 2021, 15:16Here you are OBF. Just for you.

Talking of foxes when our chairman died in the helicopter crash they built a memorial to him and a fox can often be seen around the stadium in the vicinity of the memorial garden. We saw it last time we were there. I actually think it goes there to drink from the water feature.
