Back on track how does Bensham feel about his new manager appointment?
Viera was brought in because the club want to try and get to the next level, be on par with clubs like Spurs, Everton and Leicester. He's got a tough job. Only 14 first team players under contract and two of them want to leave, one being Zaha. So the clubs recruitment of new players is vital.
We will have to wait and see how Viera does, our last foreign manager (Frank de Boor) was a disaster. Jose described him as the worse Premier League manager in history, he wasn't far wrong.
I believe that there are some excellent British coaches out there who deserve a chance of managing in the top division and would have preferred us to take a risk with one of them rather than a coach from overseas. Having said that I'm prepared to give Viera a fair chance.

Can't wait for the new season to start.

Speaking as an expert on Managers ....

I am worried for him, he has been given a kiss of death.

Palace have players who don't want to be there and too many who are out of contract any time soon, the owner doesn't seem to like spending money so the team will have to be built around kids and loanees. I do wish him well, it will deffo be a feather in his cap if he saves them from relegation

Over to PTE

A good result last night and a comfortable watch certainly giving the feel good factor
I'm not sure Lewis Hamilton thought so. :sarcasm:
Merv, that as well, good to see George Russell getting better all the time with what he has to work with.

OK, back on topic now.
Don't worry, be happy

It ain't going to be easy to stay at Premier League level but we've never done the easy thing. As I said earlier we have got 14 first team players under contract and 2 of them want to leave, one of them is Zaha. We do have some very good youngsters at the club. Last season our under 18's were runners-up in their League and our U23's won their division. Some are close to the first team like Aaron wan Bissaka was and Tyrrick Mitchel is. The board have got to make some money available but it won't be a lot, £80m I read somewhere which ain't a lot, especially when you consider that Man U have spent more than that on one player. We ain't in that League.

Next season is going to be very interesting. It's always a rollercoaster ride being a Palace fan but next season will probably see us reaching very low peeks and even lower troughs than usual.

It will be interesting for us too, the only thing we know for sure is that the vast majority of the players want to play for their Manager ( Cisco ) and each other. We are presently wheeling and dealing in the lower leagues for players who can step up and also help to re-build our Academy.

The big problem with discovering and developing young talent is that once you find a gem the big clubs come sniffing around and take them. Leicester have done very well in selling at a high price and reinvesting in two or three young talents. It also helps to have a good manager and we struck it rich with Brendan. Have to enjoy it while we can because it's a slippery slope.

At our level, they just wait for the contract to expire and leave on a free, usually to a higher division.
Fortunately, there is this development clause where at least we can get a few quid via arbitration, but nowhere near market value.
Example, we got about £400k for John Egan via arbitration, then Brentford sold him on for millions.
Our latest young talent, Jack Tucker is in his last year and probably won’t sign a new deal.
Pompey offered £200k last week 😂

Our 14 year old Sancho's contract renewal was controlled by his father so it was possible, albeit unethical, for City to make him an offer he couldn't refuse. What's done is done but Watford will shortly get 2.3 million as a result of his transfer to United.

That sounds a heck of a lot more than you would have received when he was 14.

Two years after City got him for £50,000 they sold him to Dortmund for £8 million ... we could have done that so no it's a heck of a lot less

I really have no idea but £200,000-ish would not have been too newsworthy given that most of the Hornet supporters were still praying that City would get a 10 point deduction ;)

All the pressure was on the England lads for that game, and it showed, but the pressure will shift to the Italians for the final ... I tipped the Italians to win the tournament but I won't give a sh*t if I got it wrong. Roll on Sunday
