there is a line of thought that credit cards should also be resigned to the annuls of history
On one level I would agree with that in order to prevent over extending credit to those who cannot afford it, but on the other-hand it is invaluable for those who manage their money responsibly.
If it comes to pass I would miss my credit card (although it would free up a few slots in my wallet) :).
However, could it not be argued that those that manage their money responsibly are the least likely to actually need a credit card?

Maybe, but the way I use a CC is to purchase whatever on the card and pay off the balance monthly as I only keep enough in my current account for my monthly needs having been caught out once by having my debit card cloned.

I do similar, but with electronic banking these days it is pretty easy to move money to where you need it. In fact I think some of the newer apps can do this automatically for you

I know interest rates are minuscule but I still prefer to hold onto my money as long as possible, and the benefit of a credit card is that there can be up to 8 weeks between using the card and actually parting with the money. I only ever use my debit card where a credit card would incur charges or with the very few firms that won't accept credit cards, and other than paying the cleanet, I rarely use cash anymore.

Cash still makes up nearly 18% of all payments made amounting to billions a year.

My football club has decided to do e-tickets on the phone including season tickets and will be cash free in the ground.
I reckon it will cost them dearly and it will quickly be scrapped.
There are already many complaints from very long standing season ticket holders (mainly older people) who don’t have smartphones to download and don’t have online banking to pay for it.
In the stadium, it’s not unusual to see dad’s giving the kids a tenner to go and get a burger and drink.
Is the dad going to hand over his debit card?
Unlikely I reckon.
I called today to find out if away fixtures can recognise the e-ticket and they said that they hadn’t thought of that but they’ll call back and let me know.
I’m going to Plymouth v Gills on 14th August so I might just buy a ticket from them on the day and pay cash.

We use cash to put into envelopes for the grandchildren, they've always loved getting them and it's far more personal than telling them that we paid ' x ' amount into their Building Society Accounts.

I will also only offer cash for tips, no way will I add it to the bill cos we like to be sure who will be getting it. Getting work done in the village is cheaper using cash so why should I opt into a system that will add at least 20% to the cost.

We always keep a couple of grand in cash in the safe Moby and it’s come in very handy at times.
Last bank holiday, my immediate neighbour who was widowed last year had a boiler problem.
She asked me to help and got a bit tearful when I told her I knew naff all about boilers but knew a man who did.
I called a gas engineer I knew who was a bit reluctant being a bank holiday so I said I’d pay him cash.
Twenty minutes later, he was there sorting it out for the lady.

I would normally be the same, although it usually doesn't matter. Last night was an exception though.

We went out with friends for a meal. The restaurant was picked because we all happened to have vouchers for it - most of them being expired due to COVID lockdowns but, after phoning the night before, the restaurant said it would honour them. So a good meal was had by all until it came to bill time. We threw all the vouchers in (some £300 worth) and made up the difference with cash, including a decent tip.

The manageress said that she couldn't accept the vouchers because they were expired - and you sort of know how that conversation went back and forward for a while. In the end she wouldn't back down so we removed the tip from the bill paid the food/bar in cash and threw back in a £60 voucher telling her that was the tip - either pay it to her staff or stiff them, the choice was hers.

Again not with the latest EV charging points. Those limited to a selection of vehicles are of type 1 which are few and far between and in any event you can get a suitable adapter.
Not for my neighbour. Otherwise everybody in the neighbourhood would be parking outside his house.

And is that a bad thing - unless you have something to hide?
Absolutely it is.

I always wondered how long it will be before some drunken yob went around cutting charging cables

Absolutely but I'm not a tip dodger unless the service is absolutely dire.

Never have been myself either, although strictly speaking since the wage reforms a few years back I feel absolutely no obligation to leave any tips these day... but always do.
