There definitely won’t be a GE.
They value their money, expenses and power too much.
It’s quite fun watching the fiasco if you can overlook the damage 😉
Sir Graham Brady seems pretty good at organising stuff.
Maybe it’s his turn.

Stealers Wheel

I doubt very much there will be a General Election because the Tories are surely not that stupid. Instead they need a steady hand on the tiller to calm everything down, take control and instil some confidence. It won't please the left wingers who will bleat whatever the government do but it will give the Tories a fighting chance for a 2024 election, which is what I think they will take.
Current odds

Sunak 10/11
Mordaunt 11/4
Johnson 9/2

I’ll settle for Mordaunt as PM and Sunak as Chancellor nothing less.

Reports are saying Boris Johnson wants to run for leader.

If he was the new leader, the Tories would be a laughing stock and beyond redemption
"would be" .. is there any doubt left?

If you a really sickening story in relation to this fiasco of an incompetent PM that has cost this country billions
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/just-44-days- ... 46256.html

She isn't worth a single penny of it ... they need to put a cap on the amount to previous PM's ... the more surviving PM's the less each one gets.

Interestingly, one political commentator on TV this morning suggested that if Sunak had won the PM election then his chancellor would have been Hunt. So maybe no change in chancellor.

It's interesting how some members of this forum know what others are thinking without us bothering to post. Maybe I should save my breath.

But while I am here, of course Starmer and Davey want an election now, because they know it would be a walkover. Give the Tories a couple of years to regroup and Labour will still win, but with a reduced majority.

And PMs appointed without a GE? There have been plenty over the last century, including Labour and Liberals. So less sanctimonious clap trap from them please.

So if I was to be PM for a day I would get that too? Where do I sign up?

And while they are about it can they also keep their noses out of Tory party matters - it is nothing to do with them if Boris is allowed to stand (not that I think he should)

If this is correct then it just goes to prove what a F**ked up political system we have in allowing this to happen…vote “Green” and we can start the process of dismantling the Monarchical system that underpins this... “not fit for purpose political system we have now”

I’ve just watched QT and if there is any hope for the conservative party, they should ask the BBC to give Jess Phillips a regular slot…. Awfully! shallow MP.

I don't know why any self-respecting tory would want Johnson back? He was kicked out, by his own party, for incompetence, corruption, nepotism, and being a pathological liar. He was known to go into hiding when under pressure (Truss tried that as well) and, as caretaker prime minister, he basically left the country (literally and metaphorically) ... nowhere to be seen as the country faced multiple crises. He still has to face multiple inquiries which would be the focus of the media. Surely there is at least one person in the wider tory party that is competent enough to run this country, if not then do the decent thing and call an election.

On the other hand, why the hell would he even want to come back when he is earning more in one week on the lecture circuit than he did in a year as PM. Will his hunger for power and need to settle a few old scores get the better of him?

I think it’s the only way to get out of this mess is to hold a general election and let the country decide.

The conservatives need not bother turning up.

Boris has no chance of making a comeback, this time around or any time in the future Imo  . In the clear light of day just imagine what ammunition Keir would have at the dispatch box should the unthinkable happen?

It would end up being an even bigger circus than the one we are going through now.

I hope when Labour get into power they pass a law making a general election mandatory when any party changes leader. They've been banging on about it enough. But of course they won't. Like the party elected by first past the post will never change the system to proportional representation.

Strange times. A few months ago Bojo was on the front pagers saying he must go.
Today, most papers again have Boris on the front page questioning is he standing for PM as if it's a done deal. Funny ol' times.
Don't worry, be happy

I’m having a rethink :) if it’s not to be Penny then I’m rooting for Boris as I would love to see those who have caused the demise of the conservative party (Remainer MP’s) back where they belong, staying on the back benches.

Penny Mordaunt has just announced her intention to stand for leader

Probably about the same as the entire tory party put together ... still not much though.
