I agree 100% he needed to go, and I am also 100% opposed to bullying. There is no excuse.

I just have a little niggle in my mind, not just about this case, but others too.

The Civil Servant who claims they were told to jump out of the window says they mentioned it to HR but did not take the concern through the formal complaints process that exists. Instead they went to the media. That seems to be a common theme at the moment. I repeat, I think Williamson is in the wrong here, but as my Mum said two wrongs don't make a right. And for me, using the media, rather than the proper process, to try to hound someone out of a job is also bullying.

Hi Sir Merv, whilst I agree with what you are saying, I think it is a bit more complicated than taking the official complainant route, Whistle blowers or complainants rarely get treated fairly by doing the right thing… my wife can testify to this, especially so if the person you are complaining about is in senior management or in this case a Minister with the ability to make your life hell. I’m not suggesting that Wendy Morton was in this position but I can see how a few victims in lesser positions could use the media as a way of bringing a bully to task…” what goes around comes around” when you know the other option will make your life hell.

I really do not know why Labour would even want to take on the mess that has been created ... it is going to take 1-2 parliamentary terms to put us back on the road to recovery, and that assumes the right actions are taken next week. The electorate are incredibly fickle so in 4 years time, irrespective of who is in power, it will be them that are held responsible if significant improvements are not seen.

Sunak's honeymoon period ends next week when he has to reveal his hand and actually deliver some policies. You can't really make any judgement call until then.

In answer to your question I don't know that Labour would be any better than the Tories, that remains to be seen. All I know is they couldn't do any worse and that they deserve a chance.

The constant calls for an election now from Labour tell me one thing.

They know their best chance of winning - pretty much a dead cert - is now.

But they also know that there's a chance over the next two years that the international situation will improve and the Tories will get their act together and the election outcome could be different - if not in who wins but certainly in size of majority. That's why they are scared to wait.

That is known as the joys of being in opposition ... they do not have to reveal their hand, and can therefore champion everybody in society without having to select winners and losers. I have always said I would prefer to see a collaborative style of government, but that is not what we have.

For me the biggest criticism will come if he thinks he can give a broad sweeping inflationary payrises to the bone idle, feckless, unemployable and economically inactive, without also providing equivalent inflationary benefit to the workforce. Why should the workforce have to fund pay rises for others when the majority of them will not be getting inflationary pay rises? If he fails to recognise those that keep this country running then he will get what he deserves ... strikes, the loss of billions in revenue and even more inflationary pressure!

Absolutely but listening to the opposition party they appear to be sympathetic to anyone and everyone who is looking to get more money.

So now we have Kwasi Kwarteng saying that he told Liz Truss that she was going too fast with the tax cuts (maybe). Correct me if I'm wrong, but did he not say at the time that the tax cuts were all his idea?

Truss did make a comment about the cabinet not being consulted about the removal of the highest rate of tax ... and that she was not aware of some of what was announced. I think the Tory party and its membership should be made to pay back the billions that Truss cost this country.
