I also agree about the toboggans in Madiera. My son who hasn't been able to drive for a while because of failing eyesight was looking forward to an exhilarating ride but found it a little tame. Also agree with GillD Hong Kong was claustrophobic, though my husband had previously told me I wouldn't like it (Gosh he was right :o) If we are talking places and countries, I was though most disappointed in Curacao, I expected a picturesque island but found it industrial and polluted. I must say having just been around the world for the first time, a lot of places have not been as I imagined. I think we in Britain are very lucky to live where we live and where I live has to be one of the best places on earth :D

Two come to mind, firstly a medical 'situation' when about to dock in Messina last year meant we were unable to take our booked tour to Toarmina, definitely on our future to do list! Not P&O's fault at all and we did get our money refunded in full, however it was a massive disappointment.
Second was when we booked a 7-night cruise due to call at La Rochelle, just before departure we got a not to say that instead we would be docking at Le Verdun, not quite the same!

Paying £100 each for an excursion including a drive up the Amalfi coast - only to find ourselves on the wrong side of the bus and craning our necks to see over people's heads.

Especially frustrating as some on the right side didn't seem particularly interested. I feel people should have offered to shuffle round after a while but would be far to reserved to suggest it. I was gutted, the scenery was spectacular.

I've driven it myself, but couldn't afford to admire the scenery!

I wouldn't like to think i had to do the driving, a tad taxing to say the least.

We had exactly the same experience. It meant that any chance of getting any photographs, albeit through the coach window were wiped out. And as you say many of those sat on the right hand side were not interested which made it doubly galling.
I was taught to be cautious

I did the tour of the Amalfi coast and we stopped off in Amalfi itself for about and hour or so to do our own thing. This tour included a visit to Pompeii in the morning with a 3 course lunch and wine at a hotel in Pompeii between the tours.

I researched before I went and sat on the right side of the coach, and I alternated seats with those at the back of the coach which were empty, in order to take my photo's through the coach windows

My photo's can be seen by clicking on this link.

I did this tour from RCI. Independence Of The Seas.

Excellent photos there. We had been to Pompeii on the tour and did stop in Amalfi for an hour or so, wish it had been longer as it was lovely.

Our biggest disappointment was on our cruise this year. First of all Arcadia cancelled all our ports in Argentina because we were visiting the Falklands !!!!! We never got there because of the weather if we had waited (we were ahead of schedule ) two hours we could have landed.our second was we sailed past Easter Island and could not see anything , we were supposed to be in port. I was told this was a misprint!!!.

How I share that feeling, we were booked on Adonia for Rio to Valparaiso but were thankfully able to cancel with a full refund.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

The only disappointment I've had on a cruise was not being able to dock at St. Kitts as I had never been there before. However, I did visit on a later cruise and will be there again next year.

The Argentine ports issue is an interesting one. Clearly there are a lot of interesting places to go there and I can understand anyone who hoped to go and missed out being disappointed. But it is Argentina which is trying to freeze out the Falkland Islands by banning any ship which calls there from going into its ports. Personally I detest bullies and think all the cruise companies should take Argentina off their lists of calls for the forseeable future. The lost income tourist would perhaps refocus the minds of the Argentine goverment.

My disappointments don't involve missing ports - I sort of understand the issues and plan around them. We were (for instance) scheduled to be on a cruise involving Korea, but we have changed the booking so that we go somewhere else.

On a cruise last year we tried to d I y a walkabout in a port - and were so busy enjoying ourselves that we walked straight past the small entrance to what we had set out to see! No matter, because we did another cruise and made sure we did our homework properly with Google Earth and found it on the second time around no problems at all.

So, I can be quite laid back about stuff; I felt it was lovely when somebody said we could meet up onboard, but then really disappointed when I got a message that they didn't want to meet up afterall. That was a disappointment, but I was able to plan other stuff to do - but it would have been nice.

Oh well - c'est la vie I suppose.

Em :)
