Re: Kidnapped
In 1990 something or other we did a 2,000>> mile coaching trip from Washington to Dallas, one single lady was on it only so that she could visit a convict on death row in or near Montgommery, Alabama.

' Accepting ' their circumstances if you prefer but as you would know there is no way that you can keep three growing children quiet for more than ten minutes if they decide otherwise let alone for many years.HK phooey wrote:All happy enough with their circumstance? If so then maybe one of them is ill and needs a Doctor ...

Re: Kidnapped
Oops, I was about to put that in a national newspaper the other week a woman in the UK wanted to marry someone on death row whom she had never met. Crazy isn't the word.

Re: Kidnapped
H K, I am sure over the years they have bonded with each other, but when they were taken as children it must have been terrifying for them. The fear of what might happen to them must have been dreadful.
I feel for their families as they all must have had 10 years of hell fearing the worst.

Thankfully they all eventually escaped. I certainly hope that a film isn't made. I hope they get as much support as possible to enable them to live as "normal" a life as possible.

I don’t think you could survive that amount of time without there being some happy moments, one could even assume they led pretty normal lives in the confines of what they were allowed to see, do, and hear.
Happiness comes in many forms and I’m sure their happiness prior to being kidnapped is nothing like the “happiness” they’ve endured over this past ten years.
Btw...”Fear” can keep anyone quiet...But please don’t tell my wife I’ve said that... squeak! squeak!

Depends what (if anything) they were threatened with. Look at the number of cases of abuse that come out these days from years ago, when the victim has only now plucked up the courage to speak up.Manoverboard wrote:' Accepting ' their circumstances if you prefer but as you would know there is no way that you can keep three growing children quiet for more than ten minutes if they decide otherwise let alone for many years.

I would not wish to rule out the fear element, the point also made by OL, however I would not start to compare this ' actual ' present day situation with the so called abuse claims from long ago that arise these days.Silver_Shiney wrote:Depends what (if anything) they were threatened with. Only time will tell of course but hopefully it will not emerge as a Hammer Horror ... can only hope for that if nothing else.

Re: Kidnapped
It has been pointed out that the girls were young and growing when they were first taken. How did the kidnappers get clothes for them? buy shoes that fitted? Did they have shoes? Who delivered the baby? The more you think, the more horrific it is, isn't it? Did Amanda know that her Mother had died? However you look at it, the men who did this were wicked; is there a punishment to fit this crime? I very much doubt it. Execution is too good, IMO.
Also, the six year old presumably has never been in the company of other six year olds, or any other children; how very sad is that?
Make a film of this? I very much hope not. Jay

Well Moby, thank God you're not going to be the judge in this case as it sounds as if you'd let them off with a slapped wrist.

Re: Kidnapped
No way would I wish to be the judge in such a case ... lethal injection is more my style ... but if I was weighed down with it I would need to know ALL the facts before reaching conclusions.HK phooey wrote:Well Moby, thank God you're not going to be the judge in this case as it sounds as if you'd let them off with a slapped wrist.
In any event one has to be elected to be a Judge in the State of Ohio ( Wiki says ) and I didn't stand this term

Re: Kidnapped
if guilty beyond all doubt, how about two hours in a women's prison?

HI SS
I do quite like idea of two hours in a women’s prison...before they get some pain relive in the guise of the lethal injection.
What you can be sure of is that these young ladies didn't invite themselves back for coffee and spend the next ten years drinking it.
Guilty whichever way you look at it.
Regards
Keith

Re: Kidnapped
Moby, your "Can only assume that they were all happy enough with their circumstance" comment is just bewildering and comparing the situation of the noise levels of the children that were snatched and subjected to God knows what and children in a normal family home is bizarre.

Re: Kidnapped
Helen, I've just read that one of the girls was forced to deliver her inmate's baby and was threatened with death if the baby died. Who knows what duress they were all under?

Shiney, when I saw this story in the news my initial reaction was happiness that these women were free and able to return to their poor families. Contemplating now what their lives have been like over the past decade makes me weep.
