You don't really expect any govt trailing in the polls, to go for an early election, do you Stephen?
I would imagine it will be as late as possible, probably after the Kings speech, which of course will then disrupt any new administration, and put them on the back foot.
Hi John, I didn’t recall Stephen saying he wanted an early election just a change in government? :?

Yes’, on a personal level…I’ve just bought up two thousand-second hand dinghies with outboard motors which will shortly be shipped out to France for a tidy profit.

Will you be using the same shipping company as you use for chocolates? Asking for a refugee

Me thinks that she is not a happy bunny!

As with all of these things we only have, and probably only ever will have, one side of the story.

The saying "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" comes to mind here.

Never have been a fan of her and nothing has changed.
The answer lies in the meaning of the name…Braverman = Braver…Cleverly = Maybe…Camaron = Crooked or Bent

Another that falls into the 'No sh*t sherlock' category

It was always going to be rules illegal.

This government have managed to take incompetency to a whole new level.

Is there anything that they haven't mucked up?

In many cases in the last few months at the hands of the Home Office. Maybe they should sack the Home Secretary? Oh......

Hi John, in the present political climate I can see that a dictatorship could be of some bennift, but as with all political systems, corruption always overrides initial good intentions especially in the long term. You seem to think that I endorse the principles of a dictatorship where in fact I have never advocated this. Having an elected head of state falls way short of that assertion. I would however like to see a different way in which our present political system is structured, something for which I have already given my views. I do however struggle with what appears to be an acceptance that we must carry on down the same ill-thought-out policies which the present government seem to be happy to take us.

That is a rather selfish assumption Keefie that your views are the only ones worth considering.
I dont always think that our govts make the right decisions, but I do think they generally try to follow the accepted principles of their party, and therefore what their supporters believe in. So even when Labour are in power, as long as their policies are what their followers believe in, then I do accept them, even though I might not agree with them.
Isn't that what democracy is all about.

Good morning, John, Whilst I accept that I may come across as being a little self-opiniated my views are, and always have been open to scrutiny by you and others on this forum. There is no assumption on my part that my views are the only views that have any credence…I can’t help it if you and Foxy keep getting it wrong  but he along with you are never slow in putting your views across… while accepting you both do so in a far more articulate way in which I present my views.

I think what OL would like to see is a total overhaul of the political system including a head of state.
However so far nobody has come up with any viable suggestion as to who our 'new' head of state might be, and certainly there are some pretty poor examples where the monarchy has been usurped only to be replaced by instability and unrest. Our current monarchy may not suit everyone but the alternative is a rocky road to tread and I am not sure what the benefits would be. I presume the Royal family would move out and a President, along with his entourage, would move in.
For years the smaller parties have been banging the drum for proportional representation but this is also a system leading to instability and uncertainty. Is that what we want? I doubt it.
The system we have is by no means perfect but the alternatives are no better, and judging by the experiences of other countries, we could be worse off. It's such a pity that the Tories have made such a hash of building on the strong majority they held.

The way the left wing media have reported only the dirty linen of the govt ever since Boris landed a knockout blow to Labour in 2019, is reminiscent of the treatment meted out to Major's govt in the 1990s. Unfortunately it looks as though it will also result in a Labour victory next year.
The only redeeming feature I can see, is that Starmer and his troupe of pygmy politicians, don't have an ounce of the ability or charisma that Blair's cabinet had, so it's unlikely they will last as long.

I really don't know how I will vote next time. The Tories are clearly in a decline of self destruction and I still have no clear idea what Labour might do differently.

However, my vote will make little difference either way. We have a sitting Tory MP with a big majority - she took more than 50% of the vote last time. And it seems inconceivable Labour won't win, so it looks like I'll have a Tory MP sitting in opposition.

So here's what I predict.

Big win for Labour in the next GE.

Have I Got News For You makes a sharp shift to the right and slags them off just like it does the Tories now.

BBC accused of being full of Right Wing Fascists.

Sunak dumped and Cruella becomes leader.

The half of the Tory Party not whingeing now start whingeing.

Starmer finds it's not so easy without hindsight.

Nonetheless Tories under Cruella slump to even worse result in 5 years.

Cruella replaced by Boris

Electorate remember how awful Labour was last time.

Starmer replaced by Corbyn.

Tory victory at the election in ten years.

Keefie elected President.

It didn't bode well the other night when a Labour shadow somebody or other was asked what Labour would do about asylum seekers in the wake of the Rwanda debacle when the response was "We would have a plan" - suppose it is better than the Conservatives who do not have a plan, just would have liked to know what the wan would be

As an ideal I could not disagree with you but an ideal is all it is. In practice it just does not work. Political parties cannot agree within themselves so no chance there would be any agreement with others. We would simply end up with a fudge, a bit like your chocolates
