Not Our King
You’ve got to give it to Camilla, she knows how to treat the natives
…. I don’t know about laughing it off, she should be bowing her head in shame. The Australian press are going to love her nonchalant dismissal of an elected indigenous senator. NOT!

Re: Not Our King
If I invite somebody into my home they are my guest and I treat them accordingly despite any differences we might have. Wrong time, wrong place, wrong occasion, she was rude in the extreme no matter how strongly she felt about her cause and an embarrassment to the dignity of ordinary Australian people.

And wrong too. Constitutionally he is her King. If she wants a change to the constitution she can argue for it. In the meantime her duty as a Senator is to defend it. How can anyone make this Camilla's fault?

I don't know what Camilla is reputed to have done but whatever it is the woman's actions should have received the contempt they deserved. By all means have your constitutional views but these should be addressed to the right audience in an appropriate manner which that wasn't.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 10:00And wrong too. From Lidia Thorpe’s prospective and that of her ancestors she represents I can fully understand why she used this opportunity to highlight the injustices of which her people were subjected to at the hands of our colonial aspirations…mass killings, children taken away from of their parents, their traditional lands taken from them, their cultural identity denied.
…you would have thought by now that Charlie and Cam would have known their presences would insight such reactions…the truth is that the majority of Aboriginal people/Australians now want to become a republic and we should respect this and stop sending these pompous freeloaders on their all expenses paid holidays to where they are not wanted.

Re: Not Our King
Onelife, I know very well that you'd like to do away with the monarchy. As you probably know I disagree with you for all sorts of reasons. It's your right to state your views and your objections to the monarchy. What I find so unpleasant is the fact that you can't use the people's correct names. It's rather like Foxy's view saying that the protestor was rude and stating her objections in the wrong place. I don't believe that calling the King and Queen, 'Charlie' and 'Cam' enhances your beliefs, it's rude and I find it unpleasant. Call them Charles and Camilla if you can't bear to use their titles but please for the sake of my blood pressure stop with these names. Certainly talk about your reasons for changing how the country is ruled, I have no objection to that, I disagree with you but it's your right to say what you think but please be polite, at least on this forum.

Hi Carole, I thank you for your (as Ray has said) well-crafted response to which I respond thus. As you and others will have noticed I have no respect for the Monarchy and despise everything that props up this archaic outdated institution. I have however toned down my descriptive use of words to describe what is probably this country’s most dysfunctional family and in doing so should be praised for my reformed use of how I refer to your King and Queen (it always makes me laugh when I think of Cam masquerading as a Queen)CaroleF wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 12:32Onelife, I know very well that you'd like to do away with the monarchy. Re: Not Our King
Onelife, you may well despise the Monarchy but no matter what Charles or Camilla say or do is going to make the Australian government hand over the running of their country to the less than 4% aboriginal population. But I gues that no matter how hard we try to stop you, you will continue to make a fool of yourself by jumping on every anti monarchist outburst, no matter how remote it is to the crown.

Hi John, thanks for your view point. What we can deduce from today’s exchanges is that I take personal insults far better than most on the forum…. Thinking about it… it is the one thing me and Charlie do have in commontowny44 wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 16:13Onelife, you may well despise the Monarchy but no matter what Charles or Camilla say or do is going to make the Australian government hand over the running of their country to the less than 4% aboriginal population. And yet you can't see that the middle east situation is largely driven by similar actions inflicted on the Palestinians by the Israelis over decades.Onelife wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 12:22From Lidia Thorpe’s prospective and that of her ancestors she represents I can fully understand why she used this opportunity to highlight the injustices of which her people were subjected to at the hands of our colonial aspirations…mass killings, children taken away from of their parents, their traditional lands taken from them, their cultural identity denied.

As far as I understand things the indigenous people of Australia were no threat to those who invaded their country…Hamas terrorists and a large proportion of Gaza’s population supported Hamas in their attempt to eradicate Israelis peoples.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 17:39And yet you can't see that the middle east situation is largely driven by similar actions inflicted on the Palestinians by the Israelis over decades.Onelife wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 12:22From Lidia Thorpe’s prospective and that of her ancestors she represents I can fully understand why she used this opportunity to highlight the injustices of which her people were subjected to at the hands of our colonial aspirations…mass killings, children taken away from of their parents, their traditional lands taken from them, their cultural identity denied.
There will be no peace in the Middle East while Hamas is in power, but I do agree with you in that innocent Palestinians are paying a very heavy price for what eventually will be an uneasy peace.

Hi John, just for clarification…from what I’ve been reading the Aboriginal peoples treaty to which they are seeking has nothing to do with 4% of Aboriginal peoples wanting to run Australia…. but don’t worry about making a fool of yourself as when you’ve done it a few times as I have you learn how to turn it to your advantage.towny44 wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 16:13Onelife, you may well despise the Monarchy but no matter what Charles or Camilla say or do is going to make the Australian government hand over the running of their country to the less than 4% aboriginal population. I had no knowledge of what the abo's were wanting, since like you I could not be bothered to search it out. I was merely making an extreme point to emphasises the futility of the senators outburst.Onelife wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 22:01Hi John, just for clarification…from what I’ve been reading the Aboriginal peoples treaty to which they are seeking has nothing to do with 4% of Aboriginal peoples wanting to run Australia…. but don’t worry about making a fool of yourself as when you’ve done it a few times as I have you learn how to turn it to your advantage.towny44 wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 16:13Onelife, you may well despise the Monarchy but no matter what Charles or Camilla say or do is going to make the Australian government hand over the running of their country to the less than 4% aboriginal population. I actually did understand the Aboriginals peoples plight but chose not to highlight your lack of understanding in a way that would embarrass you.

Re: Not Our King
At what point do the colonists stop remaining British?
First generation, definitely British.
Second generation, debatable.
Third generation, 100% Australian.
So why blame the current British monarch?
Blame their own government.

It's in the far past and that's where it belongs. History is about learning from past mistakes. I can't be doing with those who dig up our past and start applying modern day practices to put it right. It's an impossible task.
