In or Out of the EU ??

I most definitely would like to see comprehensive balanced discussions before I make my mind up.

However looking at those politicians busting a gut to get us out I have to ask myself are they ever likely to suggest something that is in my best interests

Forget the politicians.
I would like to see in black and white what the current benefits are for us . The goalposts continually change and all we hear is how much it is costing and being told it is best for us.
Right at this moment I couldn't vote one way or the other as I haven't a clue as what is best for this country.
I certainly don't think that the EU should be dictating to us with regard to our legal system.

We need far more information on the pros and cons before being able to make an informed decision. The biggest trouble with a referendum of this nature is that many people will blindly vote either along party lines or, more worryingly, how ever the Sum, Mail or Mirror tell them to !

The EU needs to go back to its original concept of being a "free" market within Europe - and that side of it I doubt that we could do without. What needs to be reigned in is the way in which Germany is doing by the back door what it failed to do 70 years ago.

I can't make a decision on this until the 'powers that be' have completed their attempt at negotiating a different situation for the UK.

Me too Paul, I'm sure there are many like us that would welcome being told in simple terms what the fors/againsts are, maybe someone on here that does understand it could start a couple of threads " Reasons to be In " and Reasons to be Out " of course we already know we won't agree with everyone but I would actually welcome hearing peoples opinion regardless of what political party they support.

That would be my situation as well ... I would love to see a proper analysis of the pros and cons of being a member of the EU ... I believe the government has deliberately kept us ignorant about what it all means.

One thing they do need to do is reel in their spending, their expenses, and paying MEP's to be absent or sign-in-and-sod-off.

I did vote against joining the EU - honest! Now I don't know, we have lost all our trade with Australia and New Zealand etc it all seems to be with Europe now and it doesn't seem likely that we will get a large share of the Asian market.

I just wish it was a free trade agreement and they would leave our legal system alone.

We need to start planting the seeds now for a brighter future for our children.

The fact that I don’t understand what being part of the EU really means is of no consequence as they themselves don’t know either.

Part of the reason for the main parties wanting to stay in the EU is personal kudos of the polititians

They just love to be on the world stage, bigging it up.

Do you seriously think that Obama would give Cameron or any other leader the time of day if we were not part of the EU?

It's time that our leaders realised that we are no longer a major force in the world.
No one elected them to be the police of the world.
We don't need to fight other people's wars on the grounds of 'peace'

I personally don't think that the UK gets a great deal out of it and would be more than happy to examine further facts, if we could find them anywhere

My gut reaction says out, and even a considered view says out.

We have a major trade imbalance with the EU, so its not in their interest for us to be on the other side of a tariff barrier.

We pay into the EU far more than we receive, so again not in their interest to see us leave, especially Germany who would need to make up the shortfall.

The second largest finance sector, USA, is outside the EU, hardly makes sense for them to push us outside as well.

Overall view, Cameron holds all the aces and has a Royal flush up his sleave as well so he ought to be able to negotiate a cracking deal for us, only problem is I doubt he could neghotiate his way out of a wet paper bag.

like most people, I suspect my understanding of exactly what we put in and what we get is sadly lacking and until, I know that, I can't make an informed choice.
we do need to stand on our own more and try to recover an economy that is based on manufacturing and export, rather than a service industry, but I doubt I will see that in my lifetime.
and I also agree that we are not a powerful nation anymore and we should stop using the countries credit card trying to keep up with the real economic powerhouses and sort our own problems out first, before we give billions away to god knows what, in the form of contributions to the EU etc
