Only looked at Ethical Diamond so far .....another horse that runs flat or hurdles by Willie Mullins but have you gone for the right one ??
He is also running Hipop De Loire with top Irish jockey CT Keane..... here's hoping your right
I quite like the look of Mr Percy for a place although he was 16th in his last race last month

Well Purosague didn't do quite as well as you hoped...although you did beat the favourite Mudbir and Rhoscolyn
I was surprised to see Ethical Diamond started as favourite but well done for getting the winner right

A brave choice for tomorrows race with Epictetus... I hope you got the earlier price I saw @ 25/1 as it is now showing as 16/1
You probably know that the owner of Purosangue is running Linwood & Great Cheiftain in this race....(I spotted the racing colours were the same.)

Hi Pompey, I got 6/1 about Ethical Diamond but couldn’t take a price on Epictetus. I had no idea the owner of Purosangue has two running in the same race, both it would appear having better chances than Epictetus going by the betting. The reason I’ve back Epictetus is that he has a bit of class and should he show that class he looks a good speculative bet at the price.… that being said his form figures leave a lot to be desired not having made the frame in two years, however, this race is a drop in grade for him so with a fair wind behind him I can see him reaching the frame at the very least….famous last words.

Now let’s talk Purosangue, whilst he didn’t deliver the goods, I thought he ran a cracking race especially having lost many lengths just after the start…. he was lucky to stand up after being badly impeded. He is entered up for the Ayr Gold Cup currently 25/1 20th Sep and I’m really tempted to have a significant bet on him, however, I rarely bet anti-post so I’ll be slapping the money down as soon as Betfred go nrnb.

You should seriously think about following my lead on this one  :D

But that will have to wait until another race.....Today he is a non-runner

When I look at the Ayr Gold Cup I have noticed the owner of Purosangue has 4 entries.....
Purosangue, Jakajaro 16/1, Dyonisos 66/1, Seven Questions 66/1
At Goodwood today at 3:00 she runs Jakajaro against 3 other Ayr Gold cup entries ( Get It 33/1 , Flash Harry 33/1 & Alaskan Gold 66/1 )
So If he does well & wins I guess she might choose Jakajaro over Purosangue

Morning Pompey, you really are a whiz at sifting out theses’ stats. Whilst I enjoy the wins when they come, the real enjoyment for me is trawling through the form lines and it is those little snippets of information that you uncover that can make all the difference to your chances of a return on your stake.

My initial thoughts are that (barring injury or withdrawal) Purosangue will be the owners first choice with the other three running in either the Silver or Bronze cup on either of the two days before the Ayr Gold Cup.

I’ll watch the replay of Jakajaro which looks like starting fav.

I see Epictetus is a nr today.

So if I did have a bet on Purosangue.....lets have a look at the Ayr Gold Cup statistics

23/23 – Run within the last 8 weeks :D
20/23 – Run within the last 4 weeks :D just made it
20/23 – 3 or more wins to their name  well 3 horses have won the gold cup without 3 or more wins
18/23 – Won over 6f before :D yes he won at York in the Coral Rockingham Stakes
18/23 – Didn’t win their last race :D he came 6th at Goodwood 23rd August
16/23 – Carried 9-1 or more :D just made it
16/23 – Came from a double-figure stall  we have yet to find out
15/23 – Rated 90-101 :D shows as 98
14/23 – Aged 4 or 5 years-old :D yes

Those stats would give Purosangue a good chance but the unknown is what draw he will get…middle to high are normally favoured so it’s a case of wait and see.

I wasn't going to post on racing for a while but a couple of things happened
Sadly 3 yr old Ruling Court winner of the Guineas this year has had to be put down due to laminitis...So sad and he only ran in 6 races ( first 3 times placed 3 times ).

Onelife you may remember we had a chat in late May about a horse you like Sean and during that chat I mentioned a horse I quite liked....I said
" I also saw a video of the Royal Hunt Cup favourite "My Cloud"
Roger Varian & his jockey were saying he is still learning. He thinks the track will suit especially with a strong gallop.
So I have made a small bet on him winning but again statistics are against me .....the favourite has only won once in the last 12 runs and that was joint favourite Wild Tiger last year.

So yes he was favourite and when I made my £2 e/way bet he was 6/1 .....he won the race as 3/1 fav.....I completely forgot I had made that bet and had put the betting slip as a bookmark in a book I was reading at the time. Guess what  I found the betting slip this morning and so went to the bookies to get my winnings £19 at the 6/1 starting price. If he had been 3/1 or 4/1 I wouldn't have bet e/way.

Hi Pompey, now that’s what I call a surprise result…I do recall you mentioning ‘My Cloud’ and what a season this horse has had having won four on the trot. It doesn’t always pay off but taking a price is what I often do…even better when your bookie is giving best odds guaranteed. Anyhow’s by my reckoning given your normal stakes this win will have you in front re: stake to returns…. well done you.

Nothing is jumping out at me for tomorrows racing other than a speculative £5 on Kerdos in the 2.5 Beverley… that being said he’s up against a strong fav in Reginal so any return will be more in hope than expectation.

Hi Onelife, maybe nothing jumping out for you today ( Sat ) .....however for me it's the 17:27 at Deauville
I took another look at My Clouds future races after I found that betting slip.
My Cloud is running in a group 3 race starting favourite....ground might be a concern as I'm not sure how he runs on Soft
Anyway the reason for me watching how he does in this.... will be because of his next race
He runs in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on October 18th....right now his price is 33/1 which will probably drop if he wins well today.

He is up against much tougher opposition including Field of Gold.
I don't think he will win due to what I've found out in the stats but if he gets a place at 33/1 then I'll be pleased....if he wins then WOW !!!
Stats say...11/12 winners had last run 41 days or earlier......missed by a week
Stats say...10/12 winners had at least 8 previous flat races....he hasn't
Stats say ...9/12 winners had a 118 rating or higher......at the moment his rating is lower
More chance of a 3 yr old winning 8/12

Lets hope I don't forget I've made a bet this time....even if it's only a stingy £1 or £2 e/way

Hi Pompey, it’s a massive leap of faith to think a class 2 handicapper can win or get placed in a group 1 race (even if he wins today) 33/1 would seem about right when you consider what he’ll be up against.

As for todays race…if he handles the ground then the 3/1 looks a fair price, however I think Cicero’s Gift will give him a good run for your money.

I agree with you.....it is a massive leap of faith but I like to have a bet on possibilities even if my bets are low
This is the reason I buy a lotto ticket / euromillions ticket...of course I know I'm not going to win or even get the second line prize but there's always a chance I might just get lucky

You’ve got to be in it to win it Pompey…. just remember your good mate onelife if when your numbers come up. :D

MY Cloud is clearly better than a handicapper which is why the trainer is opting for group level races, the alternative is that the horse will be carrying top weight in handicap races… (a sure-fire way of running a horse into the ground)

So, yes let him take his chances, nothing ventured nothing gained, the possibilities are endless. ;) :)

Hi Pompey, I’m posting here because I don’t want Foxy making a load of money backing my two good things on :)
Friday

Ascot 4.5 “Lord Bertie”…more rain the better, and if he can avoid falling out of the stalls like he normally does then everything points to him running a big race at very attractive odds.

I’ve put this one up before and I can see no reason why I should desert him now. “Epictetus” hasn’t shown a lot for quite a long time but like Lord Bertie if given soft conditions I can see him turning those statistics around.

Don’t tell Foxy  :D

Hi Onelife, just want to mention that for the 4:05 at Ascot Lord Bertie shows no jockey but he did win this race last year. He is also showing as running at Haydock in the 4:20 with Daniel Tudhope as the jockey...different line up...I wonder if you still think he'll do well if he runs there.

When I mentioned about two horses running in the same race at Ascot I was referring to the 4:40 where you have EBT's Guard running and also Epictetus ...two horses you have mentioned before. Also Purosangues owner is also running Great Chieftain & Linwood & in their last race Linwood beat Great Chieftain.

Hi Pompey, at the time of posting my “horse tracker” wasn’t showing Lord Bertie being entered up at Haydock as well, so thanks for bringing this to my attention. I think the decision as to where he runs will be dependent on the ground, but looking at the Haydock option I would say this would be the easer route to take; however, he is well weighted should he go to Ascot.

I did note that two of my previous fancies were running in the same race but I’m going with Epictetus because Ebt Guard has had a few hard races recently, while Epictetus has run like a donkey in his previous runs I still think there is more to come from what was once a classy horse…whether it will show this form on Friday is another matter, but its £10 win on each with a £5 win double...although I might put an extra £5 on Lord Bertie if things look right.

Well it seems that Lord Bertie is running at Ascot and he will also have a hood on...hopefully that might make a difference.

So for the 4:40 you say you prefer to go with Epictetus but he hasn't got the best draw ...I still prefer EBT's Guard even if he has had some hard races and also he has a better draw. But your putting money down so I'll stick with supporting your choice
Watch out for Theoryofeverything he won last year and seems to like soft as well....he could sneak in with a place.

I'll be taking a little look at the 13:50 at Haydock (1 mile) on Saturday (without betting) as it seems that 4 of the leaders in the betting for the 2000 Guineas next year are running in this one

Well, they’ll be no excuses with ground conditions going in their favour, however, the draw is a bit of concern for Epictetus but a lot will depend on where the pace is…with its current price at 16/1 its gota be worth a punt.

Getting a low draw shouldn’t be a problem for Lord Bertie with only 11 other runners (I note the money is coming for it) Lord Bertie often blows his chances at the start but my £15 win will ensure he gets a decent start tomorrow...I hope.

I’ll also be having £5 win on illusionist 3.15 Haydock

Total stake £35

P.s won £775 on the premium bonds this month…don’t tell my wife. :D

Illusionist – ran a fair racing finishing strongly into 5th place
