To my mind, if they've been swigging from the bottle, and the neck of the bottle then touches the water dispenser, it could transfer any lurgy....? It doesn't really matter, the rules say "don't do it", so DON'T DO IT!!Quizzical Bob wrote:Please explain exactly why this is unhygienic.oldbluefox wrote:Those who fill their water bottles from the water dispenser in the buffet restaurant despite notices telling them not to. Only for four days? I've got to drive into Bristol down the A38 every day.ItsmeAnnC wrote:Cyclists - when I'm driving they are on the road, and when I'm walking they are on the pavement! I recently had the misfortune to have to drive through the centre of Bristol for four days at rush hour. Without exception the hold ups were other vehicles not being able to overtake the cyclists. I don't know what the answer is, and I guess they are entitled to use the roads, but believe me, it causes more than a little frustration

But that's only because they want you to buy the bottled stuff from them? In my opinion there are far worse practices in the buffet that will spread diseases, tongs for example, and even the water dispensers have a button that needs to be pressed.Silver_Shiney wrote:To my mind, if they've been swigging from the bottle, and the neck of the bottle then touches the water dispenser, it could transfer any lurgy....? How about filling your glass and then pouring that into a bottle?

Alan - the A38????? I dislike Blackboy Hill on a bad day; and as for that stupid junction at the Almondsbury interchange - it's an accident waiting to happen!

Hi Notso - As far as I know that is what it has always been called ..... and funnily enough it leads into Whiteladies Road.
I seem to recall that it is the hill which goes up to the Downs from Park Street I think (which doesn't possibly have a park).
Anyway, going on to the bottled water lark - we always have ours delivered to our stateroom. We don't spend much (if any) time in the self-service restaurant (except to raid the ice cream machine but that's not often).

Em, you're absolutely right about that junction, if you're coming south on the M5 - it's safer to continue to the Cribbs exit.Boris+ wrote:Alan - the A38????? I dislike Blackboy Hill on a bad day; and as for that stupid junction at the Almondsbury interchange - it's an accident waiting to happen!

Getting out of Bradley Stoke can be a nightmare, and the roundabout by Sainsbugs/MoD can be dreadful, especially in the evening.
So, on the loose theme of traffic queues, another pet hate is people who stop their car and keep their foot on the brake pedal, instead of putting the handbrake on. Especially at night. Don't they realise how dazzling the brake lights are?

Speaking of odd named streets, there is a 'By The Sea Road' in Trowbridge, Wilts, which must be around 40 miles from the nearest sea.

I've never been able to stand people that bang on about the roads in the Bristol area.

Hi Alan,
It's funny you should say that - the 'downs' near us in Sussex are on the top of a hill! Worth the walk though - and if you are lucky you might still see a Chalk Hill Blue butterfly.

My car is an automatic with a foot handbrake. It also has a 'hold' function that keeps the brakes applied - and the brake lights on - until you press 'go' again.david63 wrote:That's all well and good - unless you have an automatic without a handbrakeSilver_Shiney wrote:So, on the loose theme of traffic queues, another pet hate is people who stop their car and keep their foot on the brake pedal, instead of putting the handbrake on. Handbrakes are a thing of the past for newer cars - my vauxhall astra has a button to press to apply the brake and you just drive off when your exits are clear - mind you it took a while to get used to.
