This has also reminded me of an incident at work - I must have been about 18 at the time (a heck of a long while ago) ;).

A colleague was typing a letter to a Pensioner (this was the Civil Service) and she just screamed out, what the b....... hell were his parents thinking of. This Pensioner was called Ernest Everard C@x - naivety at its best! I hope I don't get red penned for this.
When I worked at a big bank, some customers names caused amusement

One of my favourites was Mr W@anklyn .... although he pronounced it Ranklyn

There are some more, but they are even more unprintable.

My favourite non rude one was Miss Mercedes Window ........ her perfect partner would have been Mr B M W Door.

When looking into my family history, I came across a Victorian lady called Ophelia Ball.

If I remember, notso, I'll have a look through our registers to see what odd names were current during the Victorian era. I did see one the other day but can't remember what it was.

Oh Lord above, ITV's This Morning programme has just invited viewers to take part in a poll saying whether or not they want to see Katie Hopkins back on the programme to defend her comments. As one viewer tweeted 'she's TV gold', don't people realise the awfulness of her opinions? She clearly revels in her notoriety and goodness knows what even more controversial comments she will make to keep herself in the limelight. Should we really give her any more airtime?

Well, I've found a Septimus, loads of girls called Fanny, Minnie, Bertha, a Dorcas, an Alfretta, Dorethea, Clementina, Zilpah, several Adelaides, a lad called Shadrack, another called Theodore - that's just the ones with surnames beginning A - B.

Well apparently 83% of This Morning viewers do not want her back on the programme.

Children's names go through phases, with particular names favoured at a particular time, and it could be that the young parents of today want to give their offspring modern and even outlandish sounding names but I think it is bad to judge anyone by their name.

I think over the years there has always been a resurrection of 'older' names.

Over this last year I have met 2 baby Samuels, 2 Josephs, 2 named George and 3 named Rex.

I am quite sure that Kate Hopkins would also find fault with these names.

Imagine her at the school gate. I cringe at the thought of it.

My son's boy is called Samuel, his mother is a very devout Christian and of course it is a Biblical name. I'm afraid I am a bit naughty since I call him 'Samster'. I'll have to stop.

Alan, just think if you met the Hopkins creature you could give her a flea in her ear ! Well if you could get a word in edgeways that is! Re my nicknames for my grandchildren, sometimes I call Sam, Sammy, or Sammy Bear and his sister is nicknamed Cheeky Bear. Both have beautiful African middle names.

Meg, That takes me back. I was always called Ann at home but I knew I was in trouble when Mum or Dad called me by my full name.

I didn't see this episode of This Morning, but having watched her on the Apprentice I can well imagine, even Andy Murray mentioned her this morning in his interveiw with Holly Willowby. I completely agree with everybody else that of course people should not be judged on their name, a name doesn't make the person.
However, unfortunately at work names do often follow the stereotypes, although there is a rise in more "old fashioned" names, I have nursed the occasional baby Arthur or Audrey.
My possible favourite is Nevaeh (heaven backwards). Parents think they are being completely original, but I have nursed several over the yers, including 2 at once!

My mum was an Audrey, I didn't realise that name was coming back.

My research into my family history has been interesting. On my dads side, the same Christian names kept appearing through the generations. Fortunately these names weren't John and William, but Lancelot, Avery and (this is my favourite) Hungerford.

This naming pattern died out at the start of the 20th century. My dad was the last Lancelot, although he was always known as Lawrence, and the last Hungerford died in 1916.

In my research, I've come across people with these first names and the same surname, and I know they must be related, but haven't been able to go back far enough to slot them into my tree - this naming pattern seems to have been going on for at least 400 years.

I used to know a lad of my daughter's age, called Cosmo. His father told me that when he registered the birth, the registrar said that this was the first Cosmo he had ever registered - though he had 'de-registered' several of them!

S S, I have known a lot of British males who have been called that.!!!!!!

On one American TV show there was a young man called Junior Junior. At the time he was named presumably his parents were having a Senior moment.
