Yes, we've heard you often let him take you to Cribbs Causeway to spend his money.

Another option could be for one of them to have a flat near where they work and stay there Monday to Friday and both be at the "family" home at weekends. Not ideal but it works for some
I gave up my job when Alex got his new job in Swansea..he wanted me to move down to Wales with him, but I wouldn't.
He had an apartment down there he lived there and so I went down as often as I could. He came home every six weeks or so.
It lasted for 5 years.
I loved being with Alex, but hated the situation we found ourselves in.
He is still working away, but his base is in Windsor now, so comes home every weekend.
I go down to see him for 5-7 days every 5 weeks.
Its not ideal and I still hate the split life, but its the best we can do.
A marriage needs to be very strong to do stuff like that.

Indeed. I think this is one of those situations you have to work out between you. There is no right answer and sometimes it ends up being a compromise. There are many instances of spouses/partners who are split because of their work, in some cases for months on end (long distance lorry drivers, businessmen, armed forces personnel, cruise crew, sportsmen and women etc), but it depends very much on the strength of the relationship and the individuals within that marriage. There are too many variables and no one size fits all answer.
I was taught to be cautious

Hey - he's happy, so who am I to complain?

Anyway - twisting the language; he is a kept man quite simply because I have kept him.

Boris

I am shocked that you go to work !!
I was under the impression from your posts that you lived the life of the idle rich and were well cashed up?

Sue,

We found something we liked, then found out (after much delving) something worrying about it - and the deal is off.

Hi Sue,

Yip, I am being philosophical about it. I really can't be doing with problems.

Sounds to me as though the feller wouldn't be too keen even if he did have a job waiting ... doesn't like change or is maybe opposed to it because it wasn't his idea. Both old fashioned and selfish views of course as is hoping to stay put in the same locality for all of his life in spite of his wife having a worthwhile, even ground breaking, opportunity elsewhere.

If he has a degree he will be able to get work of some sort even if he has to venture into a new career path, happens all the time these days.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Apologies, CJ, for getting the relationship wrong.

As has been mooted by others here, I think perchance there's something a bit "deeper" going on in the relationship that the couple need to address first.

These days, I don't think there's any set roles in a partnership about who does what just because of their gender.

There's no need for this guy to be a 'kept man', he could find a job of some sort when he moved. It might not be his first choice of job, but it would be something for him to do if he wanted to work.

I think it's easier say he doesn't want to be a kept man, rather than saying he doesn't want to move,
Gill

I seem to recall the problem was it being an old house Spud, just like ours and your fabulous apartment in Windsor, hey ho. :relaxed:

Hi Wolfie,

No, the problem was absolutely nothing to do with the property itself. It was something which we could do nothing about - end of story. No problem - just very pleased that we made our discovery before it was too late.
