Thanks Romig for some reason I thought you were more midlands than Yorkshire. I have had enough of this blooming snow now. Love the snowball fights, love making snowmen but terrified of driving in the stuff. Our main roads are fine it's once you leave them and drive onto the estates. On Friday we had a lot of snow and had to pick junior up from school fortunately OH was home so he drove we turned off the main road into our close and just went a skidding :(

We are travelling up the M1 to Derby at the weekend please could anybody in the area let me know what the roads are like around there. We are heading to the Mickleover area. Forecasts that I have seen have ranged from the great thaw to more snow and we need to decide wether or not to travel.

Many thanks :D

Vigi, the snow is forecast to come in from the NW on Fri pm, and into the evening. There's some uncertainty as to the possible extent at the moment. The weekend itself has milder conditions and rain forecast.

I suggest you keep an eye on the Met Office site..also shows severe weather warnings too.

We expected to wake to a heavy frost this morning but it seems ok, the forecast is for it to warm up this weekend so hopefully it'll melt the snow ;)

Babs, we had more snow forecast in the Midlands for yesterday afternoon but it never arrived, I'm probably about 15 miles from Mickleover and whilst we have a lot of the white stuff on side roads the main roads are fine, I'll keep you updated.

It has been snowing very heavy here since teatime today. It is now pretty deep with very big flakes of snow coming down.

We got about 3" overnight....but it's already melting. The road outside is clear and slushy at the edges.

One thing that I've been very impressed with over the past week or so is that (for Huddersfield at least), the forecasters have been pretty much bang on, in terms of extents, timings and depths of snow.

I'm usually very critical of forecasts (though I do understand the reasons behind their inaccuracies), but credit where credit's due.

In fact, I was surprised when last night's snow came 3 hours later than predicted! :o

And it is already thawing, which was not predicted in last nights forecast.

We had 3/4 inches over night it was still falling at 3.30am, has been raining this morning but not enough to clear what is on the road, I live at the bottom of a cul de sac so unless any cars come down to turn I'm stuck as I can't get the car out ... bugger and I'm home alone too :o

No snow here, the little we had about a week ago has all gone.

Lovely sunny morning here, hardly a cloud in the sky.

Shows the difference between Leeds & Huddersfield Rob - we've had about 7ins but it's slowly melting in the sunshine.

Angie,
I noticed from the live pictures on Look North last night, that Leeds had it worse than us. Can't say that I was disappointed.
