Earlier this month I received two very different, well poles apart really, birthday presents from my two daughters; maybe it's as they see me at my age, again diametrically opposed thoughts but both well received, well I think so, time will tell about one.
One was a very safe option.... afternoon tea at an hotel quite a distance from here so we will book to stay overnight, eat at the Michelin starred restaurant and enjoy the whole package. The other present required me to take a change of clothing and shoes.............. a 4X4 experience for 2 hours. Suffice to say I won't do both on the same day!!
I mention this as it, IMO, shows how diverse is the perception of those buying anyone a present ; this with family members who know me, supposedly, well.... or not!!
TG they didn't buy me a personalised anything or a monogrammed anything, and, heavens forbid, a personalised or monogrammed item of clothing or something for the home. Almost as bad as logo wear which again seems a prerequisite to being perceived as cool these days, so very wide of the mark. Fair enough for the younger generation where image is everything but on a wrinkly it screams, I want to be accepted as part of the in crowd which I find very sad.
So, Jo, a bottle of vintage port, an appropriate red plant for the garden, afternoon tea or a 4X4 experience???????????
