When you work for an American company you get really cheesed off with the word 'Awesome' .. everything is 'Awesome'.
I think they are getting the hint because now if I think something is really good I refer to it as 'double awesome'.

A lot of folks seem to get themselves over-agitated by these forms of 'language'.
There are more important things to worry about.

Actually, I find some of the forms quite amusing and often quite inventive.

I hate the saying 'badda bing badda boom' which has crept into TV adverts - I first heard it on an advert for bagels and last night someone said it at the end of an advert for toothpaste. It would drive me nuts if someone kept saying that.

I hate it when someone starts a sentence with "Well, I mean..." and I'm horrified to find that I've started doing it too

Many of the letters we have in our archives from the 1800s are signed off with "Believe me" before the "Yours sincerely". Does anyone know what that was supposed to signify?

I always thought the 'believe me' was used when communicating formally with an ambassador.

like you know, when like, we like went to the cinema and like got popcorn and drinks like
it is a shame ,as we have such a rich and expressive language, that it is dragged down to the lowest common denominator and mangled and garbled by laziness and stupidity

Just a guess - no evidence for this.
Could it be a derivation of "Believe in me", in effect saying that the content of the letter is true?

I hate all the Americanisms which are coming in. We no longer go to the cinema, we go to the movies. And I do wish television reporters and presenters, who are supposedly educated people (or so they tell us) knew the difference between 'less' and 'fewer'. It's just lazy journalism and sloppy English from people who should know better...............innit?
I was taught to be cautious

Re: "Moving Forward"
OBF I quite agree about the "less" and "fewer" thing - get's me infuriated too! One of my daughters works for an American company and she is in HR - I say Personnel - and she was a Recruitment Manager. She got an email telling her she had a new title, she is now a Talent Acquisition Specialist! At the end of the email her boss said that if she had any queries - "Please reach out to me"!! She (who has my liking for good English) said she would like to do more than that!

We had a waiter on a recent holiday whose response to most things was "no problem". Every time I said something to him I was cringing waiting for the "no problem" reply.

One office I worked temporarily in had a "speaking" stuffed toy of ALF, whose catchphrase was "no problem". Their very unpopular line manager hated it, so whenever she was leaving the room, the staff would punch this toy in the stomach and out came the catchphrase.

I have a real problem pushing the envelope. No matter how hard I push, it stubbornly insists on remaining stationery!
