Re: CHRISTMAS LIGHTS YES OR NO?
We're Ho Ho Ho on the inside of the house - with a real tree and white lights (with baubles and decorations which we have collected over 30 years, in addition to the ones my mother-in-law had bought for my husband every year before we were married - so he brought a dowry of 23 Christmas decorations!) , hand embroidered stockings, chunky tinsel, a wooden crib scene, advent candles etc. I staple all the Chrstmas cards to ribbons whch I then pin to the top of our doors so they hand down over the doors.
Outside we're bah humbug. The only thing we put outside is a wreath on the front door. I cringe at some of the garish outside lighting which goes on, especially the plastic lit up santas and snowmen, though I quite like to look at subtle (white) lighting in trees ... but no earlier than a week or so before Christmas.

I’m just off out to return a tub of tile cement to Wicks... guess what I’m going to do with the money...Yes! I’m going to get some more twinkle lights.....
In fact I’m going to start putting them up next week as I don’t like doing it when the weather gets to cold....squeak squeak.
Btw when you meet the OH again please have a word with her ...she won’t allow me to have the Christmas tree on the garage roof this year so I’m going with reindeers instead...that’ll teach her.
Best wishes from your mate down South.
is that candle wicks or Wickes with an e in it, or eeeeeeeee if your from upt North
As for lights.....Bar Bleed'n Humbug.
And if I did get any it would have to be flashing ones. I can't afford to have the ones that stay on all the time since the energy prices have gone up.

Re: CHRISTMAS LIGHTS YES OR NO?
For many years i have put up the decs for Christmas, but now I just let my daughter do it at her house and I just put a bit of glitz on the mantle piece here. Year before last the tree lights failed to function again, and I am not buying any more, so we will be treeless.
Yes! I am bah humbug too.
I bought my first Christmas presents today!!! so not completely humbugged, eh?

Stephen me old mate,
This is a Christmas light thread started by my other good mate AOTH and nowhere in his OP does it mention “SPELLING” lessons.
And just for your information I did pick up some “Wickes” which I’ve kindly dispatched to you because you’re such a tight git and the fact that I hate the thought of you playing with yourself in the dark.
Regards

Re: CHRISTMAS LIGHTS YES OR NO?
Our entire neighbourhood used to dress their houses at Christmas ... I can't remember the exact number but I used to put up well over 5000 lights .. however most of the kids have grown up now and the number doing the house sup is getting less and less. I didn't do mine last year and I haven't decided whether or not I will this year.
PS: Saw my first Christmas tree yesterday

My Hubby said he had seen decorations on one house - Thursday
Then yesterday we saw another one.
I love Christmas and decorations, but, early November

Re: CHRISTMAS LIGHTS YES OR NO?
A HUGE HO HO HO from me.
Only 16 more days till I start decorating my 5 trees inside and two outside (this year). Just plain white lights in the front garden, but out the back we let the grandchildren decorate their play shed and tree. with coloured lights and have various "tacky Christmassy bits" all over the back garden.
All the downstairs rooms have a tree in them and as many lights on each tree as it will hold..lights on the mantelpieces, lights down the bannister, lights on the bookcases, lights around the Kitchen dresser unit thing..ohhhh and lots of tinsel so the light catches it and it sparkles all over...

OK, so it's Wednesday...
we do a tree indoors - all kinds of stuff on it - we've enough tree decs that we can colour code each year.
shedloads of angels all over the place (just bought 2 more this afternoon!)
Outside we have mini christmas trees ( unlit) on the front door windowsills in the porch. No tacky lights and stuff outside at all

Re: CHRISTMAS LIGHTS YES OR NO?
I have to admit I'm struggling - busy looking at stuff which will be new for us for December 2014, and I thought I might have a look now so that if there is anything 'on sale' in January I can get it at a reasonable cost.
However, whilst I can see the relevance of a pair of illuminated reindeer with moving heads (all in white), I still can't see the relevance of trains, dogs, and penguins!
I've also seen a snowman - again all in white - but if it's not snowing it will look a bit daft, and if it is snowing, I'm staying indoors, not faddling around with decorations outside!
So, I'm still looking around various garden centres, done John Lewis etc - but I just can't see anything simple and stylish which I fancy.
