You’re not thinking logically John…if they banned racing you would have to put up with me, not only mid-week but also on Saturdays, whilst making a case to get rid of the Monarchy

Can't see it'll make any difference. You've not managed a make a case in 5 days a week. Another 2 won't help.Onelife wrote: 16 Apr 2023, 14:53You’re not thinking logically John…if they banned racing you would have to put up with me, not only mid-week but also on Saturdays, whilst making a case to get rid of the Monarchy![]()

I've had an idea for a steady and almost imperceptible transition to 100% flat racing. Every time a horse or jockey is killed or injured at a fence remove that fence. In10 years time the National will be a flat race without anybody noticing.

It might surprise you to know that flat racing isn’t without its fatalities, indeed about a third of race horses die due to injuries sustained on the flat.
As for jockey deaths vs fence removal…. you could be waiting around 70 years to get rid of half of the National fences on present statistics.

I thought it was a load of old tosh, if the horse couldn't deal with a delay he should have pulled it out of the race.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Peaceful protesting I agree with, but not this. Lock’m up and whack a heavy fine on them.

I wonder what part so many runners converging on the first fence played in the accident. Those horses in the pack would only see the fence at the last minute which may account for early fallers.
That's my expert opinion

So move the first fence to the two mile post to give them time to spread outOnelife wrote: 17 Apr 2023, 10:38I think that is a fair assumption…now being an x Mod why don’t you go and help Mob clean tons of pigeon sh*t off his roofoldbluefox wrote: 17 Apr 2023, 10:33I wonder what part so many runners converging on the first fence played in the accident. I’m not arguing Sir Merv, I’m just trying to give you the facts in order that you can learn from your ill-informed opinions on something you clearly know sod all about.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 17 Apr 2023, 11:05You appear to be arguing for banning flat racing too!Onelife wrote: 16 Apr 2023, 19:48It might surprise you to know that flat racing isn’t without its fatalities, indeed about a third of race horses die due to injuries sustained on the flat.

Re: Grand National 2023
One of the problems is that the inside is the shortest way round and quite a few jockeys try to attain that position causing a concertina affect for those behind, Indeed, this is what happed to my hot tip “Darasso” which got very badly hampered and unseated rider by a horse falling in front.oldbluefox wrote: 17 Apr 2023, 11:19Could they not be awfully British and form an orderly queue?Mervyn and Trish wrote: 17 Apr 2023, 11:03So move the first fence to the two mile post to give them time to spread outOnelife wrote: 17 Apr 2023, 10:38

The only sport I know anything about is Formula 1, where despite the incredible speeds involved serious injuries are infrequent and deaths very rare these days. I guess if drivers were frequently killed in races, or worse broke a leg and were then shot by the course doctors, there would be a bit of a hoohah.
